When your hard drive needs body armor.....
Is it over the top? Yes. Can you find cheaper alternatives? Yes. But does it kick ass? Also yes. It's a tad over the top for protection but it's a nice neat little nvme enclosure, it's fast, and ridiculously durable. Needed, no. But it's a neat little upgrade, easy, can fit any NVME drive, small, and built like a tank. Solid recommend.

When they said TUF, they meant it.
TL;DR - This thing is built like a TANK, it’s easy to install the SSD, it’s USB 3.2 fast, don’t think about it, this is the enclosure for you. Okay so this thing is built like a brick s*** house. It’s so heavy I weighed it and it clocked in at 5.5oz (for reference an iPhone 14 Pro weighs 7.27oz). I never review products on Amazon but I was so blown away by this thing, I’m gonna buy 3 more. Do I need them? No. Do I WANT more heavy objects that can hold 8TB of speedy data? Yes siiiirrr! This thing feels like the data drive you would secure in a Call of Duty mission, for real. This thing could honestly be used as a weapon so maybe don’t give it to your kid or whatever. I swear, this thing is gonna outlive me the way it’s built. Anyway, it’s really nice, well priced for the way it feels and performs and I don’t know why you would ever buy the ROG version over this one or any other enclosure for that matter. Actually, one thing to note, if you’re planning on swapping drives in and out of your enclosure regularly, you do have to unscrew 4 screws with an allen wrench to open this one up, so this may not be for you if you’re doing that. But if you plan to drop the drive in and seal it up for life, it’s an easy number one pick.

These are great and worth the cost
First things first, yes these are not cheap but you get what you pay for. I have a Sabrent enclosure but it kept disconnecting from my device for no good reason. I needed something that wouldn’t disconnect and after much research came across the Asus enclosures and checked out multiple reviews, videos, etc. I purchased the Rog Strion first, then Tuf. Rog: I purchased this specifically because it had the C to A cable as well (the good vendors dont just sell them and there’s a bunch of junk that won’t do data properly). It is nice and fairly light for the material. The installation went smoothly (after I paid attention to how the top comes off and goes back). The lights are cool but my use case has it out of the way. The speed is great and no strange disconnects. I do have cooling fans in my little set up (multiple devices) so I can’t speak to it getting hot. Hopefully this will last forever. Tuf: I needed C to A for my first use (why I got Rog), but really wanted this. When it came on sale (along with the Crucial storage) I grabbed it for portable storage. This thing is heavy duty. Solid aluminum throughout. Installation was a breeze. Only time will tell, but from what I’ve seen this should keep working forever. I don’t plan on beating the crap out them so I may switch them around. Depends on how much I wanna see pretty lights.

Premium feel, stays cool, and built like a tank
I’ve had this enclosure for quite a while now, and I am entirely satisfied. Aesthetically, it is fantastic. It has a slim profile and a satisfying weight that feels great in the hand—not cheap or plastic. A huge bonus is the integrated lanyard loop; it’s perfect for attaching a carabiner, strap, or keyring so you can clip it to your bag for easy access. Performance-wise, I haven't had a single issue with overheating. As for durability? It feels solid enough that I could run it over with a tire and it would survive (though I’m not brave enough to test that theory!). Highly recommended.

Well built and every effective at protecting and cooling,,,
Bought this because I needed a unit that would house a new 4TB drive stick for backups. I wanted one that would minimize drive throttling as the unit heated up. Does not disappoint. Unit remained at full throttle even on LONG copy operations at near Maximum USB C/Thunderbolt speeds. Well worth the 50$. One caveat is that the 4 screws that hold the unit together are a weird hole pattern that even my I-Fixit kit does not have. It comes with a small wrench that fits it well enough. Why do vendors do this Apple'esque nonsense, but I suppose I can live with that relatively minor thing, if it works well and it definitely does that.

Its tough and works well
I got this after retiring my old boot-drive to re-purpose it as an external drive. Depending on what cabel i use the drive doesnt seem to get enough power to remain on but ive had the most sucess with type-c to type-c cabels with no dongles in-between as for the durability of the unit- i feel comfortable to hammer a nail into place with it. Its a tank and i feel safe throwing it into my bag. Despite what it may seem like the notch in the top isnt some sort of carabiner. And while i dont own any to test i would imagine its too narrow for one. Onto instalation: its fairly easy to install a full length NVMe SSD and i would imagine it wouldnt be difficult to install shorter drives. Though i do take issue with their choce of hex key screw as most enthusiests dont have a proper screwdriver for those as they arent really used in PCs. I cant recall if it came with a tool for it either but quickly reviewing the asymbly video on their youtube channel reveals they are using those awful L shaped wrenches for them so if it did come with a tool it was probably that. As for speed: its obviously being bottlenecked by USB transfer rates but this results in faster random reads and writes than your average external drive or thumbdrive. (You can even game off of it lol) that being said this speed comes at a cost and that cost is heat. Luckily the whole enclosue is one big heat spreader so it should stay cool enough to mantain decent speeds and not fry. Though i have not run extended stress tests on mine to verify this.

Expensive enclosure but super sturdy and well made
I needed a good drive enclosure for a 2TB Samsung 980 pro I gifted my younger sister to back up the photos on her iPhone that ran out of storage. I would normally get the cheapest nvme enclosures I can get my hands on but this time I wanted something water resistant and sturdier and by god this A1 enclosure is a lot nicer than the cheaper ones I've used from ssk and orico. Its got a lot of heft to it, the hex screws are easy to tighten with the included allen wrench, and it has the easiest mechanism Ive ever used to install the drive into the enclosure, its just a plastic latch that rotates to lock the drive into place. Its so simple yet well thought out design overall. The only con is its really expensive, coming in at $55 after tax for me. For just $20 more you could get a thunderbolt enclosure with 4x the performance of this, but most of those wont be as sturdy as this I reckon. I would definitely recomend this if you need a quality enclosure thats water and drop tested.

Perfect for portable OS’s
I love this thing. Feels solid and super premium. I use one for a portable install of Windows and another for Linux. It works great. Because of its speed, I don’t notice any slowness in the operating systems. It’s as if the drive was installed directly on my computer.

built like a tank, as good as it gets.
Read and Write speed of 950MB/sec connected to MacBook Pro M1, formatted as APFS file format. Other file formats are slower on Mac. Feels solid to hold as it is metal built. Already had the thermal pad inside. The NVME inside seems secure and firmly connected to the pad for excellent heat dissipation. I don't think there is a better USB 3.2 10gbps NVME enclosure out there. Love it. And btw it is dust proof, shock proof and moisture resistant.
