Excellent emergency flashlight with no lifespan worries
I bought the Hydralight a few days ago and couldn’t wait to try it out! Wow, this is truly awesome! I do understand the tech behind it, but did not realize how reliable and reproducible it had become. Basically, the energy pack (aka the battery looking tube) has two different type of electrodes (I have not inspected them, but this is the principle), one of which is likely to be carbon biased and the other would be made from a common metal, for example zinc. When both of these are immersed in an electrolyte, salt water for example, the complex chemical reaction of the imbalance between ion exchanges will create a net electric flow. That’s it, pretty cool ey? What’s great about this light is that once you package it with a low energy LED, the product becomes usable unlike decades ago when the tech was known but light bulbs drew too much electricity to make this possible. Love the rugged built, have bought a few and place them in the car, around the house, in the garage, etc, great for emergencies ( we live in an earthquake prone area, plus bad storms). The only drawback is that if you lived in a dessert, or were hiking/camping in a desert like terrain, well, it does say that you need access to water to make this work! My only ask to the vendor is to produce a broader line of products, for example, options that have a USB output to charge a cell phone in an emergency, etc.

Perfect Back Up Flashlight
We love this flashlight!! We got it as a gift for Christmas and then we've bought a few as gifts for other people. Just dip in water, shake, and bam you have light!! It's not as bright as our battery operated lantern...but I like that it's not super bright. If your feeling skeptical...just get it as a back up flashlight then. If you forget batteries or if they die..then pull this out and use it. Little tip: write the instructions on a piece of tape and then tape it to the flashlight. I can never remember how long to soak it so this helps a lot.

Doesn't work.
I bought a light for my father in law for Christmas. There is an issue with the fuel cell clearance in the light housing. We charged the fuel cell with water as outlined in the directions, but the light would not turn on. When the cap was tightened, the light would not turn on, but if I unscrew the cap and hold it loosely on the cell, the light works fine. It appears the cell is a little long, or the black plastic plug in the cap (that has the foam around it) is too long. Either way it will not work.

All right for emergencies but will have limits
The Hydralight 2-1flashlight is nice to have for emergencies and power outages. Living in the Midwest we have a lot of severe thunderstorms, straight line winds and tornados and have power outages all the time. This is nice to have knowing you don't have to worry about batteries working in other flashlights. I am giving this 4 stars because of a couple of things. The first is the listing. It states that it runs on water. This would be impossible, it should say it is activated by water. The water (or any liquid) activates magnesium in the power cell to produce a current. I used mine a couple of weeks ago. I dipped it in water like it said and then shook it a few minutes to make sure there wasn't excess water in the power cell. This is important because it will crystallize and shorten the life of the cell. I can turn the switch on and it will work and it has been 2 weeks since I dunked the cell in water. Another thing is I have searched everywhere on the internet and can't find no replacement cells anywhere. So after this power cell is used up, the light becomes useless. The light is okay for emergencies but if you are expecting a bright power beam, you will be disappointed

This is the perfect one. You easily dip it into any type ...
After my sister went through a hurricane and having no power for days, we knew we needed an alternative light source. This is the perfect one. You easily dip it into any type of water to activate it. We used tap water. After 7 seconds I was able to reinsert the “battery” and away we went. The light was nice and bright. I was able to turn off the lights outside and shine is across the patio to read writing on the opposite side of the room. To me it felt like a typical flashlight strength, which is amazing since all it needs is water! We let it run for 2 hours the first night. It stayed bright on the one water dip we did. I tested the next morning (12 hours later) and I was still able to use it in the first water dip. I was impressed! We will use it for hurricane season, but this is so helpful for camping, hiking, or just having around the house and not having to worry about batteries.

Good for Emergencies
Not having to use batteries is great. I think this would be a good thing to have on hand in case of emergency. Where I live we have frequent power outages. The light itself is not very bright. The flashlight is lightweight, and I do like the "lantern" feature. It was super easy to set up, and if I get 300 ours out of the cell that runs on water, it would be great. I have left it on for many hours, continuously, and it hasn't run out of it's first charge yet. It hasn't reached 100 hours yet, though.

So cool!
The Hydra Light has been pretty impressive. The instructions were very easy to follow and I was amazed at the ease of use. After removing the fuel cell from the body and taking the wrapper off, I placed it in a cup of simple tap water for about 10-15 seconds. Even though I had some reserve about how it would work, I followed the instructions thoroughly and it worked great! The body is comfortable to hold as it is wrapped in a rubber compound. The flashlight feature works great at a distance of about 15-20 yards while in decent darkness and can even work decently in low light situations. The lantern feature has a really good foot radius while resting on any surface but can increase in size when elevated without losing much illumination. This light would be great for camping or any outdoor activities.

The instructions were easy to read and easy to understand
This light is ingenious! When I saw that this light would be powered by water, I was in disbelief but wanted to try it. The instructions were easy to read and easy to understand. I was able to get it set up in minutes. All I had to do was run a piece of the light under the water, shake it off and then place it back into the light. The light lit up immediately. My family tested it and it lasted over 24 hours and was bright the entire time. It can be used as a flashlight and also as a lantern. I couldn't believe it actually worked. We plan to use it this summer when we sit outside on our deck and when we go camping. AWESOME PRODUCT!

I really do not know - need 24 years to test
The package says it will be good in the package for 25 years before it will go bad. I will wait 24 years and try it and see if the manufacture was truthful. Not sure how they would have tested this as its really new tech. LMAO

Came right away. First power cell lasted 4hrs. , then failed. Will try another cell before freaking out, and returning all [I bought two]
