How big is the table when the leaf is up?

It’s just under 30” across and and just over 43 1/2” long.

Are the wheels removable?

You can of course remove, or never put them on, the wheels. If you do it will be about 3 1/2” shorter than it’s stated height. The leaf support also has a wheel which would need to be removed.

Would this work to leave the doors off, put my microwave on the shelf and a basket or similar on the bottom?

I think putting your microwave on the shelf would be about all you could fit. I would also be concerned about how heavy the microwave is. There are no middle supports in the shelves.

Is the leaf support steady? Or will the leaf collapse too easily if it's accidentally kicked?

There is a support that is hinged on the back of the card, it is steady but could be kicked out if someone tried but it is located in the center of the island. Ours is up against a wall and we only use the extra leaf for parties, and it is always up against a wall so is never a problem for us.
