The explanations are not clear enough. For instance they refer you to page 44 for '' further explanations'' to understand the concept of V7 on page 13. The explanations are unclear for an adult beginner.The ''chords'' are also taught in a disorganized way: for instance '' minor chords '' is the title of Unit 10 ( page 40)., while '' primary chords'' occupy a small section on page 13. I found the whole book confusing if like me, you study the book by yourself at home.Keith Snell's '' Fundamentals of piano theory'' is user friendly and offers a more progressive approach to music theory. It is also in large prints , which is easier to read. It also offers lots of exercises to practice what was just explained to you. I plan to continue my study of music theory using the Keith Snell books.

This is a good help for older beginners, albeit a bit visually archaic in it's first edition.

I bought these books to continue in the series that I started in a college class but was unable to continue to attend. These are pretty good and easy to read/understand. No baby nonsense and nothing too complicated. So far I have nothing contrary to say about these books. I have lots of beginner books and these dont stand out as particulary great or bad, but if you are considering buying them for their intended use, I doubt you will be diappointed OR thrilled.

Clear, concise, easy to use and understand. My son is almost 14, never having done piano and the series make it easy for me to teach him.
