Reversing camera license plate kit with good day or night video but the original license plate may need replacing !
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. Integrating a camera into a vehicle license plate holder is a quick method of installing a rear view camera to a vehicle. This design fits in place of the existing rear license plate, with the original plate fitting inside the plastic body of the holder, using the same mounting holes. An additional hole may need to be drilled to allow the video cable and LED illumination power cables to pass through into the boot or tailgate area. Sixteen, bright white LED's along the top, inside edge of the holder, provide the illumination required to allow the license plate to be read at night and to also provide sufficient light for the camera, as infra-red (night-vision) LED's aren't fitted around the lens.Just under six metres of video cable is provided which plugs into the in-line connector from the camera. The yellow RCA (phono) plug connects to the in-car display unit or monitor. A 0.9m length, dual-core cable, connected at the camera-end, needs to be supplied with 12V. This can be done by connecting it in parallel with the reversing light, so the camera is only active when reverse gear is selected. It's also advisable to fit a separate 1A, in-line fuse to provide additional protection.Ensure the polarity of the supply cable is correct, using a multimeter, before connecting the camera (the red wire is +12V). The short red wire which comes out of the rear of the yellow video connector can be used to turn on the display when the camera is activated by selecting reverse gear. If you don't intend to use this feature, insulate this wire to prevent possible short circuits to the vehicle chassis. Power for the white LED's can be achieved by connecting the short, twin core cable (red wire is +12V) in parallel with the existing rear license plate illumination lights, extending the cable as required and fitting another in-line 1A fuse.If you're considering fitting this rear camera license plate holder, you need to be sure your original license plate will fit inside it and be clearly visible, otherwise you'll need to have a new rear license plate made. In my case my rear plate (520 x 125mm) wouldn't fit inside the holder (525 x 115mm). The spacing between the top of the numbers/letters, forming the registration, also needs to be a minimum of around 30mm from the top of the license plate, otherwise the central camera housing will obscure part of the registration, making it illegal.Although the camera has been rated as IP68, making it suitable for total immersion, the wiring to the 16 white LED's and circuit boards they're soldered into, is totally exposed to the elements. Silicone sealant should be used on and around the circuit boards to provide a water-tight barrier and protection from the corrosive effects of road salt and spray etc.In use the camera works quite well. A series of three separate coloured zones (green, yellow and red) are overlaid onto the video and provide a helpful guide when judging the distance. Green denotes the furthest distance, whilst red denotes the closest. The video format is NTSC as opposed to the UK's, PAL format. Most displays work with either of these formats, but may need to be configured in the display's configuration menu. Please see the accompanying video for additional information.Disclosure: A complimentary sample was provided by the supplier for testing.

Decent camera but tricky to fit
Let me start with the positives, the camera itself is quite good. Once I have figured out how to power it and run it into a monitor the resulting picture was quite good, both at night and during the day. In fact the reversing lights are probably enough for parking at night but the extra led light do help.In terms of price the unit seems very reasonable. Note it does not come with a screen but even so it does seem very reasonable for the camera, plate holder and associated wiring. The camera outputs a standard video output and is therefore compatible with all screens featuring a composite video in. This is usually connected with a yellow jack and is common on many devices. No audio is provided so the screen does not technically need an audio in although they often feature one.The downside is the fitting. Unless you have built in wiring and can simply attach it requires body panels to be removed. If you can do it yourself it is time consuming, an hour easily but potentially more depending on the model. If not it is expensive for the labour. Please note I was provided with a complimentary product in order to write this review.

Decent reversing camera, good value, works well.
Here is my review of this number plate mount reversing camera from Gogo Roadless. The product comes in retail packaging.Inside the box -1 x number plate reversing camera1 X av/power cables1 x instruction leafletThe camera unit looks pretty decent, the housing/mount is perhaps a bit plasticky.I plan to use this to fit to my mothers vintage catering caravan, to be able to see what's going on behind the caravan when it's being towed. It's perfect for this use as the number plate is dead centre of the rear of the caravan, meaning you get a true representation of position behind.I will need to extend the cables to extend from the rear of the caravan to the tow car. This has LEDs built into the mount to provide infrared night vision.I have hooked this unit up not fitted to the caravan and the image quality is good, fine for its purpose.A good value camera, that does the job.I would recommend. Thanks for reading my review.
