works good for trimming nails
We have a high-strung mix bread that will not let you near her paws. To get nails trimmed we would take in once a year and pay for teeth cleaning in order for vet to knock her out and trim nails while out.If you work with the dog and make it a game this item works as described. After 2 sessions her nails were down to a normal length. It also makes a good tug toy. Seems to be well made and so far, works like a charm.

Sturdy
After reading reviews from other super chewer parents and those who mentioned the item was smöl, I bought the medium/large for my mixed lab/Shepard/banned little girl who will not let us clip her nails. She has not destroyed it yet. She seems to like the puzzle aspect, but doesn't scratch much. Her highest value treats are green dentastix (I do not know why) so that's what we put in there. She will scratch it when we tell her to, but prefers to mouth the handles and try to disassemble the toy. This is her standard operating procedure, all her toys are Kong/Stuffy/super chewer toys because she disembowels everything else, so it's not the treats. She just likes to rip up her toys.I called her up and told her to play with it for the pictures, she dutifully snapped at it a couple times and got bored. She has played with it, and seems to like it, but only scratches when told to. The handles seem to distract her quite a bit. She likes to carry it around sometimes.

Will order for friends!
Within an hour of having the scratch square, my 5 year old Frenchie had already done a number on his front nails!I started off with kibble in the toy, but he is experienced with food toys and got the kibbles out quickly with no scratching. Next I tried a treat that could not just be dumped out of the toy and the end result was as pictured within hours of opening the package. We're now 2 days in and my pup loves it and we've seen great results! I only wish I had gotten a bigger one. We ordered the S/M for a Frenchie. The M/L was not listed and I think the L/XL would have been too big. I plan to find the middle size elsewhere and gift this smaller one to a friend with a smaller breed dog.As an experienced dog mom (Transylvanian hound, Kelpie, Frenchy, and Cane Corso), I can attest that the plastic would NOT have survived even a day with the Corso or another big chewer. It is totally fine for medium chewers and pups with their first set of teeth!

dog gets easily frustrated and tries to chew off handle
It's a great concept, and it actually does work with the nails. The problem that I have with my dog is that he gets easily frustrated with the thing and attempts to chew off the handle to get to the treat inside. I have to monitor his play time with it and eventually help him get the treat out so that he doesn't destroy the toy. It was expensive, which is why I gave it three stars on the value for the money. If my dog used it the way I envisioned him using it, it would be worth every penny. But he's impatient, doesn't like messing with his nails (even if he's doing it), and only wants the treat.

Price is way to much.
Honestly $50 for this is way too much. This is way to small my dog is 54 lbs and he can't even scratch it comfortably it looks like it would fit a dog under 40 lbs. I wouldn't even bother with contacting the seller. I had to contact them twice and the 2nd time they took a couple days to respond to me and they ended up telling me that this is a medium. Honestly if I would've known it was this small I wouldn't of wasted my money.

Dog ate it
If your dog is a chewer this won’t work. He initially scratched at it but decided it was easier to chew it apart. It was chewed open in about 2 hours.

Absolutely Brilliant!!
Whoever thought of this is a genius. Our 7 year old Terrier mix could only get her nails cut after being sedated to sleep through her teeth cleanings! So once a year! At home we tried everything from peanut butter on the forehead to dremmels to 5 or 6 different vets and different groomers and trainers. She was not having it. No one could cut her nails. Now we put a treat in and she plays with it for hours. The vet said her nails are great and her teeth have less plaque! Woo freakin hoo and thank you so so so much!💯 buy this. So worth every penny plus more!

Finally able to trim my dog’s nails!
The media could not be loaded. Our dog is 2 and I have never been able to trim his nails. Period. Even if he sees the trimmer he’s outta there. This scratch square works well! He loves it as a toy and treat dispenser and so far it’s helped trim his front nails a lot! And this is only 1st time trying! Excited to keep my boys nails easily trimmed once and for all!I thought it was going to be a cheap plastic but it’s so well made, sturdy and heavy-weight.

Great for dogs scared of nails clipped
The media could not be loaded. We have a reactive Dog, that is scared of a lot of things including nail clippers and nail grinders, plus new people! So, we've struggled to find a way to keep her nails trimmed and to not make her more reactive to things. I wasn't sure our dog would use this, but she happily scratches it, pounces on it and even picks it up with her teeth to play with it. We have a cattle dog mix, and she's a super chewer and very destructive with toys and this has held up, plus filed down her nails.

Works! Has limitations! I don't use it!
I really thought that this product would help me with my dog's nails when I bought it. Honestly, it isn't built poorly, but I don't personally get as much use out of it as I would like to for the price. The logic for this product and others that are similar is a little flawed now that I'm thinking back on it. I had a few hands-on sessions with my dog using this product and during our short journey with the De'Vora Scratch Square File-- I realized it's near pointless for me as a dog owner. You can use it for the front paws, but the back paws are left for you to figure out on your own. I bought it to avoid learning how to cut my dog's ultra-black nails (I was afraid), but in the end it just motivated me to learn anyways. It sits on my shelf and takes up space since my stubborn husband won't let me throw it away. Grr. It just wound up being clutter in my home and that's probably the worst part. Additionally, I can imagine for some folks that this product might look like an easy, hands-off solution to trimming your dog's nails, but it's really not. I only ever used it face to face with my dog and I can't see it really having great function for those who want to toss it on the floor to let the dogs themselves do the work. They might paw at it a bit, but ultimately they'll probably just flip it around with their muzzle until the treats fall out of the useless(for me) treat compartment. Finally, the idea of training your dog to scratch at anything for rewards might end up seriously backfiring on owners. I wouldn't recommend it!

Great For Dogs Who Don't Like Thier Nails Cut
After a few years of trying pretty much every dog nail file and clipper known to man ...and going to the groomer and having my dog go full on panic mode. I'm so thankful and happy to finally find something that she enjoys. 🥰

This does not help to train your pet.
I have 3 little dogs and they are all interested in this toy when there are treats in it, but they bite the openings to get the treats out. Scratching the pads on it does not make them come out so this was a very unsuccessful attempt to train them to file their own nails. The positive reinforcement that is supposed to be provided is not by this toy. Very disappointing for how much this cost.

Actually works, in 3 weeks my chihuhuas front nails are all filed down! This is a lifesaver.
