De'Longhi F26237.W Deep Fryer with Total Clean System - White

We had no experience of this type of appliance before, so our main concerns before purchase were: Does it really come apart completely for cleaning? and: how big is it (for storage etc)? We wanted it not for chips but to try home-made scotch eggs. Having tried and failed to find one locally in the shops to inspect, we turned back to Amazon and took the plunge anyway.Yes, it does come apart completely for cleaning. And, for those concerned with where you're going to keep it, yes it's pretty large (32cm deep x 28cm wide x 27cm high).I suggest it's a good idea to practice taking it apart before use; although not difficult, there is always a 'knack' to these things, and you want to discover it without having a heavy bowl of oil to contend with. Make sure you pull the control unit at the front out first, as the terminals of the inner bowl plug into it. The lid justs lifts straight off after opening. The instruction manual is quite good.The timer is a completely separate device, works OK, but does not control the heater or power. It just unclips to remove.Yes, everything can be put in the dishwasher, but be warned. The inner bowl which holds the oil is made of undressed aluminium, coated on the inside with good quality non-stick. The heater element is firmly welded to the outside bottom of the bowl. This type of construction gives excellent thermal conduction (ie, the oil heats up quickly enough) but will make it susceptible to eventual corrosion in the strong detergents used in dishwashers. I suggest that for maximum life you wash it by hand. The non-stick lining makes draining the oil and washing very straight forward. The basket is steel and entirely suitable for the dishwasher, although you can't remove the (plastic) handle.The thermostat is easy enough to use. Some reviewers have commented that it is flimsy and inaccurate. This in my experience is a common criticism of domestic appliances, and what you get is very much dependent on individual machines. I've no complaints at this stage, my only comment is that the hysteresis (delay between going off at temperature and coming on to heat up again) is pretty long, but our first batch of Scotch Eggs was well-cooked and delicious, so I suspect it is designed to work that way.Only four stars? Yes, because things can always be improved and I don't know how long it's going to last. I suspect, like another reviewer, that the thermostat is the thing most likely to fail first. Let's hope I'm wrong.

We bought this item to fryer as our old one was a big of a nightmare to clean and this one came apart to be washed. So much easier than the old one.I read several reviews that said the chips would hang in the fat even when you raised the basket, but I have to say, even when the fryer is full of oil, we do not have this problem.The instructions are a little sketchy for using it. We are still not sure if we are doing it right. It says to place the chips in the basket, heat up to the appropriate temperature, and then lower the basket. You heat it with the top open? We have tried shutting it and leaving it open, but neither time did we get any idea of when the oil was the optimum temperature. We have managed to heat the oil, cook the chips, drain them, and the light is still on to say the fryer is readying itself!The viewing window is a waste of time but I did expect it would be.Overall it is a good fryer. Does what you want it to do and has the bonus of being easy to clean. It would have been better if you did not have to guess when your fat was hot enough.

Bought to replace a stronger looking and heavier chip pan which did the same job but was more expensive than this one. The item was recieved postage free just before Xmas only hours after ordering despite a warning from Amazon the it would be 4 days later. WELL DONE AMAZONThis is slightley, more lightweight and easier to clean and does the same job better than the old one and easier to clean.There is a stain developing on the welded bottom electric heating unit which may indicate a leak in the weld.or spil of oil but it is too early to to know. If it develops I will have to take more stars from this review and have to rerturn it.

Very nice cooker. Comes apart with ease to go into the dishwasher. Shame the basket does NOT lift or lower when lid is down and a shame this is not controlled by the handle.It is not a high wattage unit so takes it's time to heat up. Again this is a shame. But it does come apart to go into the dish washer!The lid is removed with ease and the filter is great to get to...... Did I mention the best thing? is it comes apart to go into the dishwasher!!!I would score this a 3 1/2 to 4 out of 5 = but 5 * for it going into the dish washer.

Brilliant. Been after one for years to do my own chips when I felt like. We have had chips every day for ten days now...It is so easy to use, looks simple to fully clean in the dishwasher as front electric part just pulls out to remove.Have not had to clean it yet..Very sturdy quality.Hardly any smell when the lid is closed and is safe and sturdy and wont fall over, and is cool to touch. The handle folds down after use as in the diagram. Push the button on top left to open the lid, pop the chips in and five mins later perfect chips. I assume it cooks everything else just as good.I put in about 2 1/2 bottles of rape seed oil, that seems enough.There is a press timer on the bottom left, hold it in and numbers go up in minutes, let go to stop, it counts down and bleeps when time is up. Press it once to stop bleep.Yea, just get one, can't fault it.

Following all the reviews on this product, I decided to treat my wife to a new deep fryer. Perhaps I should mention that we live (part time) in Greece and took advantage of the free international delivery for qualifying goods. It arrived in 4-5 days by UPS in perfect condition, well packaged . There was a slight problem with the courier not knowing our phone number to arrange a delivery time but this was quickly resolved with a on-line chat message to Amazon. The contact agent immediately passed on our telephone details and the next day we received the order. That's the superb service.We haven't had chance to use the fryer yet but looks a well designed/made product - every bit as described. One final point, as part of the total clean system, the little timer module detaches and could be used independently - say for eggs, etc. So far, am well pleased with everything. Amazon gets better an better.
