External Laptop Battery Charger for Dell INSPIRON for M5Y1K 8 PINS More Batt(Battery is NOT Included)

My charging port failed. I was faced with buying a new lap top. Thanks to this external charger I can keep my battery charged.

Works as advertised is a life saver but does seem fragile where the pin connector is attached to the wire which wouldn't be a issue if not for the price

Take note of the picture showing it connected to the battery... The prongs easily lift up out of those slots with the slightest movement of the cord which means it loses connection and stops charging the battery. I would suggest you tape it down or find some other way of keeping those prongs from lifting up. no worries about it sliding out vertically, that connection is quite snug :) oh, and for informational purposes, it takes about an hour to fully charge :)

If you have a Dell Inspiron laptop that says "battery not charging" and you have tried all kinds of ways to fix it and failed, then you need one of these. Dell has a big flaw in their laptops that they have never fixed even though they have known about it for years. I even spent $100 on a professional to fix the battery charging problem, but the fix only lasted a couple of months.So then I bought this and have run my laptop for 12 hours a day with a rotation of 3 batteries for 18 months now. (I buy CPY batteries which I have found last the longest.) My husband's Dell Inspiron developed the same "battery not charging" problem and now I have to buy an extra 4th battery to keep his laptop running, too. It does work, but you have to follow the instructions exactly or you will ruin your battery. It is best to get a plug-in for your electric outlet where you can just flip a switch back and forth instead of having to yank the cord in and out all the time, which you otherwise have to do to keep multiple batteries running all day. So until we get the money to buy two new laptops, we will keep using this. When we do buy new laptops, you can be sure they won't be Dell.P.S. It's been almost 4 years now and we are still running our old Dell laptops with this charger non-stop. I have noticed some people saying they think it doesn't work because the battery only charges 20%. That is a battery problem. It's either used up or you have withdrawn the power from it by not following the instructions on how to use this charger. You can suck all the power out of the battery if you don't follow instructions. Don't let your battery fall below 10% before recharging. Also, we have this on a chair where it stays steady all the time. If you jerk it around, you may not have the good results we have gotten. And be sure and get a plug-in for your electric outlet that lets you just flip a button back and forth so you aren't always having to plug and unplug. Yanking will shorten the life of this charger.

if product worked , could be a solution for many with laptop charging failure.My charger did not work.. I could smell burnt electrical as soon as i opened the package. Did not want to haggle with seller over this. decided to keep for the * pin battery plug and ill make my own. be ware

Like many with Dell's, my computer decided that it would no longer charge the battery on it's own. I didn't want to replace my computer which otherwise works perfectly. After attempts to fix the laptop (unsuccessful) I settled on this. It WORKS BUT ONLY WITH THE ORIGINAL DELL BATTERY (which Dell doesn't even sell anymore). I purchased 3 other M5Y1K batteries because the old Dell battery doesn't last very long so I could have a couple of batteries to rotate and it DOESN'T WORK WITH ANY OF THEM. So, just be conscious of the fact that while this product technically works, it isn't compatible with all M5Y1K batteries. Also, it arrived in what I would describe as haphazard packaging, components wrapped separately in previously used plastic mailer bags, etc. Made me think that someone else probably returned it and they sent it right back out to me. Only reason I'm keeping it because it's the best option I have right now to keep my computer up and running, but am still seeking out another battery that this would work for.

Dropped my laptop several times and broke off the charging corner. Found this external charger and thought I'd give it a try. Exactly right for my laptop. Charges easily and fairly fast. I don't understand why some people have issues with connecting the charger and battery, just follow the simple and very clear instructions. Charger has sequence light feature so you can tell how "full" the battery is. I bought a second battery so I have one in use and one charging. Very pleased. This charger let me keep my computer.
