it comes in two parts, there is a self-adhesive plastic strip that sticks to the shears and the box clips on to the plastic strip so that it is detachable if it is not required. I hope this is helpful.

can shears be sharpened with adhesive strip on.?

Yes, your shears can be sharpened as normal. The bracket that is attached to your shears is quite shallow and set away from the blades.

can you cut the grass left to right

Unfortunately not as the box would need to be mounted on sheers designed for left-handed people on the opposite blade.

If this is permanently fixed, can you still access the blades to clean and sharpen?

Yes, you can easily remove the collection box from the bracket to clean and sharpen the blades. When fixing the bracket in the first place, make sure that your blade is thoroughly cleaned and lightly sandpapered before removing the paper from the back of the bracket and fixing it to the blades according to the instructions provided. I then use a bulldog clip to hold the bracket in place for 24 hours to make sure it is firmly glued before clipping the collection box in place.
