Specialist publication - for those working a 12-step program.
I'm going to assume that you are looking at this because you're working a 12-step program, or have some knowledge of them. If not then it's going have no context to you, unless you want use this to start working one. I'm not saying you couldn't but there are better places to start. This is for working steps six and seven. For which it is unique and by default the best ever. I'll stop being clever about it - for those so called forgotten steps, I cannot praise it enough. At time of writing I am coming towards the end of treatment and beginning, hopefully, my career, in a residential rehabilitation centre. This book has helped every person who has ever read it that I have heard of. It is the single most recommended book to read (other than the Big Book, but that's compulsory) within the rehab. This review represents 5 stars from many, many people. If you're working it and worth it, so is DTR.

Find out your assets and defects!
For me the book's not about ripping yourself apart about faults and failings you discover in yourself. But also finding virtue and value in yourself. Ok its fine to get rid of the rock of defects you're holding on to. But also to replace them with assets! Nobody's perfect though, esp. not me!
