Ease of use
We made vanilla ice cream and it was amazing. We are venturing into other flavors this weekend. Easy to use, easy to clean up. I will say that the unit is rather large and does take up couner space, but so far it works great.

Yeah, It's Expensive
OK, it's expensive. ONCE YOU GET OVER THAT, you lightly mix your ingredients (it'll really mix them unless it's got a lot of chocolate chips or similar chunky things in it), throw them in, if you're going to add things (like frozen cherries to cherry ice cream) wait till the ice cream has started to thicken (about 75% thickened) then chunk them in one at a time while it's stirring (don't just dump them in). You'll have ice cream in about 45 minutes to an hour. I've made sherbet, sorbet, ice cream, and just about anything else similar in it over the past 90 days. Note, it weighs about 40 pounds and it's bulky. There are hand holds on the bottom of it, but if you are frail or weak, getting it onto and off of your kitchen counter is going to be an issue, and it's too tall to sit on your counter but under your cabinets in most homes (measure twice). With that said, it does a great job, it's fast, it's self contained, and it's easy to clean.

Performance
We wanted a larger ice cream machine to produce more ice cream as our smaller one was not cutting it. We have a dairy cow and make a lot of ice cream. The unit freezes and comes to temperature quickly. When it's done you get Bel more of a soft serve ice cream so I would recommend making it ahead of time. Also, do not overload the unit as it will freeze the outside and not successfully churn the inside and leave ice cream soup.

A lot easier than ice and roc salt
This is certainly a much easier way to make ice cream then the old school away with ice and rock salt. The instructions say that after it’s done making the ice cream it will go into a keep cold mode for up to 120 minutes I have yet to see it do that as I get nervous because the temperature starts to climb quickly after it’s done and then it starts to melt I have manually put it into freeze mode, but the compressor doesn’t kick on until the temperature gets up to 20° by that point the ice cream is starting to melt. I guess I just need to make a really small batch. I’m willing to lose and see what happens if I don’t intervene.

Much better than freezing tubs
Nice large capacity and very nice not having to pre-freeze the tubs like many systems require.

Broke after 3rd use!
I was so excited to receive this product. I bought it for our 37th anniversary due to my wife’s love of ice cream. The first 3 uses worked perfectly. Then the compressor seemed to not work properly since the temperature never got lower than 20 F. The contents never became “ice cream” even after 2 hours of “churning”. I followed all the instructions for all the potential solutions and nothing fixed the problem. I’ve contacted the Homtone and hope to get a replacement.

Barely useable.
Love the high capacity. Blade turns too quickly. Needs to go slower for better ice cream. After it starts to freeze, the ice cream just sticks to the blade and spins in a circle as one large clump. Blade doesn't go close enough to the sides and the bin becomes encrusted with too much product that just sticks there.

To be fair, this isn't a soft serve machine where it makes everything smooth, so if you need your ice cream smooth you have to blend everything first and then pour it into the bowl. Whole pieces of fruit will freeze as well and makes for the best strawberry ice cream I've ever had. The bowl holds about a liter and a half, depending. Once you push the button and let it go, you get cold, frozen ice cream in forty minutes or less (more if you're using plant-based milks). You can keep it frozen with another button as well, or add time with the wheel scroll if 60 minute increments are not enough. But you can make plant milk ice cream like oat, sorbets, in about an hour. It's so much fun and you get all the ice cream you'd want that tastes so much better than the boxed kind.

This is a very heavy machine but looks sleek on the counter top. The recipe directions and manual are terrible. I am leaving a review after my first attempt. I tried fresh Strawberry ice cream. The blade stopped turning after about 10 minutes...I had to remove all the strawberry pieces and try again, adding the strawberries near the end. I have not made ice-cream before in this kind of machine. Lots to learn. I think it will be okay once I figure it all out. I took off a star for the terrible instruction manual and four recipe pamphlet.

It's delicious, exactly like you find it in Italy, use good ingredients (milk, cream, fruit, little sugar) and your friends will compete to eat it
