New Testament for Everyone: Complete Eighteen-Volume Set (The New Testament for Everyone) Paperback – November 13, 2011

My husband is a pastor (PCUSA) and asked for these books for last Christmas. He's used them as a starting point for sermons and Bible studies and has loaned a few out to congregants who wanted to study a particular book of the Bible. They offer just enough information to support anyone's study. Looking forward to getting the Old Testament set as well.

This set of commentaries on the New Testament is a perfect addition to the library of anyone who is interested in learning more about scripture. N.T.Wright is an excellent theologian who expresses himself well and although the writing is thorough, it is also friendly reading. His translations and commentary are so well-written you can sit down and just read through any of the volumes in a sitting. I highly recommend them.

Okay, I know there are those who don't even know who NT Wright is. And if you are reading this review you may have some idea of his writings. I am totally biased and came to know NT through my seminary studies. With much more theological depth NT reads and writes more in the vein of CS Lewis and though I'm not sure NT would call himself a Christian apologist he is certainly a strong advocate of traditional orthodox theology. Furthermore, NT has an amazing grasp on the Kingdom, Jesus and the entire Bible perspective from Genesis to Revelation. This collection will really blow you away and is a must own for pastors, teachers or deeper thinking Christian thinkers and writers.

Bishop Wright is one if the most respected NT scholars alive today. He has authored dozens and dozens of books. This series is written for a lay audience. It is, however, an extremely thought provoking and comprehensive series. The biblical test used for this is Wright's own translation of the NT, The Kingdom New Testament ( The Kingdom New Testament: A Contemporary Translation ). This is a highly recommended series from this professor, biblical scholar, prolific author, and retired Bishop of Durham.

For anyone - whether you are a fan of Wright's, or are completely unaware of who he is - this collection of books will allow you to dig in, gain new perspective, and continue falling in love with God's Word, and God himself. The weight, scope, and scale of reading the Bible is daunting for anyone, and this collection of books makes it possible to see the larger story of God and His creation told through the Bible.

Wright is one of the most thoughtful and articulate NT scholars of our day. Obviously, not every reader will not agree with every position he takes, but in my view his stances are within the bounds of orthodoxy and result from a firm belief in the inerrancy of Scripture. These books are not commentaries so they don't handle every issue in every passage. But if you're a serious Christian and want the "take-home truth" of a passage of Scripture, Wright will take you there every time.

Tom Wright has the ability to reveal the depths of Scripture with amazing simple clarity. He shifts from massive tomes of theological depth written for the scholar to insightful, easily accessed writing for the average laity. This set reminds me of a cross between a small group study, introductory commentary, and an insightful devotional work. I would recommend this for the average Sunday School teacher who wants a bit more insight or the person looking to gain some devotional reading alongside the Scripture that is different from the traditional fluff that passes as devotional writing.

Fantastic resource. Engaging and unique perspective that combines the history of the time with the spiritual message of the Bible. Real events, real people living within and outside of Gods kingdom revealing to us the life God has for us as we follow his son. Easy to read and hard to put down. Highly recommended!

These books are a great asset to any student's collection of NT studies.

Great and useful series.

Loved the style of these commentary lots of good information in an accessible format but with enough meat left on the bone to challenge. Helped further by Wright using his own translation so passages come at you fresh

Wright's expansive understanding of scripture as a whole is evident on every page. This series is extremely accessible to any modern reader while being under girded by a remarkable wealth of biblical scholarship.
