Shooting Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays
Being a beginner clay shooter, I was looking for one good book to explain the basic fundamentals of Sporting Clays. This book did not disappoint. It explains the "why" behind shooting with both eyes, proper gun mount, hold point, feet and body position, and many other topics of proper shooting techniques used consistently by all master shooters. There is nothing new under the sun here. No one is trying to re-invent the wheel or sell you a pint of snake oil. In fact this may be the most HONESTLY written instructional book there is. It's simple with no drama and no brag. Just a couple of good guys showing us newbies the correct way as well as exposing bad form and habits that may have crept into an experienced shooters game. IMHO this is the only book I will need on Sporting Clays. In fact if I follow this book, with discipline and practice I'll be the best shooter I'm capable of being.

Good on mental preparation
The book is certainly worth reading. It contains a great deal of useful information on aspects of shooting clays. I was disappointed in the fact that the author felt is necessary to put down trap and skeet as shooting sports. He even went so far as to say that trap and skeet guns were not as good as sporting clays guns. Really? Give me a break! The author does an excellent job explaining pickup points, hold points, and break points. I love the way he talks about how important mental preparation is for each shot. We'll done! However, he does a less than stellar job addressing target leads. "Fire when you feel it's right" Again, Really! A seasoned clays shooter may understand what you are saying . . . Maybe! A newbie . . . Never!

Novice shooter
I am new to sporting clay shooting and have looked at numerous books trying to get some insight on what to do, This is one of the best. The book gives easy to understand descriptions from equipment to how to set up for different shots. Good reference book to read if you are having a problem shooting a particular shot.

I learned a lot.....
I have been shooting trap since I was a kid and 25yrs later I am still at it, but now trying sporting clays. While I am not a competition shooter, I am always trying to get better at the sport and know why I hit and miss targets. This book gave me a bunch of tips that I could use right away, plus a lot of info on everything associated with the sport. This is an easy read and gets to the point of sporting clays if you don't have a mentor or grew up with the sport, so this has been a worth while purchase for me.

Very Informative
A great beginner book, with lots of photos and illustrations. The book talks to you not at you. Very simple explanations, and hits in a little more areas than the plan basics books. It has a good chapter showing you the different types of sporting clays (midi, rabbit, battue etc.), and how to hit each one. The book is hard covered and is laminated so it can withstand some abuse. I would purchase for any beginner or beginner to early intermediate level. Good book.

Helped me understand the basics and the importance of the right swing.
I shoot at two different sport clay locations in Pennsylvania. This book helped me understand the importance of seeing the target first and also the correct stance and swing to become more accurate. I was shooting 25-30 out of 50 before reading the book, last time I went I shot 39 out of 50.

Chock full of easy to understand information..A must have.
I teach 4-H students how to shoot a shotgun. The young adults compete in trap, sporting clays and skeet. This book is chock full of easy to understand information. I picked up new ways to explain the stance in order to move properly. Great information on how to break a clay. And the common mistakes people make when they are not breaking clays. The book has great photography and illustrations. This is my new go to reference book.

A good manual to dip into
A mine of information! Illustrations are clear and help with understanding the gist of the text. A good manual to dip into, although I read it from cover to cover on the day it arrived! Excellent book.

I purchased this present for my husband and knowing nothing about the sport thought this book would be ideal. Unfortunately my husband was not very impressed and thought the book was a little dated
