Do you have to set this device up in Raid? I just want to install Plex and plug in my (already) filled NVMEs and go.

There is a setup (it is very easy) but part of that is formatting (wiping) the drives unfortunately

Can it be populated with 4TB drives?

Yes it can be populated with 4tb NVME Drives I have 4 currently in there and am running unRAID on it instead of what it came with there is nothing wrong with what it came with but I prefer unRAID personally there are videos on YouTube by Linus tech tips and others using 4tb drives also

What is pcie 3.0 speed "Supports PCIe 3.0 SSDs for up to twice the performance of PCIe 2.0." however last gen was 2x2=1000 if this is 3x1 no diff

Using unraid on the flashtor doing a file check gave me a average speed of 880MB/s over 1 hour 15 minutes so i would say that the theoretical speed would be higher than that but real world that is about what to expect with the 12 bay version I do not have the 6 bay one but imagine it would be the same / similar Network i likely going to be the bottleneck most of the time with either version
