The base stays on counter well, provided the surface under it is clean. The spindle works great, is smooth & sturdy. It is a great size, if you don't possess the space formerly owned. Quality of wood is excellent choice, stained, sealed & buffed well. I like the perfect star, when you observe from the top. No assembly necessary. Afforded

Comparing Two Magnetic Knife Holders: $300 Premium vs $43 Budget
I tried both of these magnetic knife holders — one around **$300**, the other just **$43** — and honestly, the cheaper one is a **fantastic deal**. It spins smoothly, has **strong magnets**, and comes **fully assembled**. The magnet strength is spot on — knives stay secure, but they’re **easy to slide up and remove**. It holds standard 8" knives no problem, and for anything over 10", it’s best to position them so the **wood covers the full blade** for safety. It also has the **perfect footprint** on the counter — compact, but still fits **around 10 knives comfortably**. I actually **prefer this open design** over knife blocks that hide the blades — you can instantly see what knife you’re grabbing, which is great if you’ve got a variety. The $300 version is beautiful and a bit more refined, but the $43 version delivers **90% of the experience for a fraction of the price**. **Highly recommended** — I’m seriously impressed with this one.

Weak magnets, Dangerous.

Strong magnets and holds way more knives than I expected.
We bought this to replace our traditional knife block after getting some bigger knives and we were able to fit an entire knife block's worth of knives (including 6 serrated steak knives, on top of all the specialty knives and a pair of shears). It remains secure and pretty well-balanced. It's also way more compact than a regular knife block, which has freed up some space on our small countertops. The only knife that was too big was our meat cleaver. The cleaver stuck to the magnet great, but I wasn't comfortable with having the blade stick out being the wood and risking cuts.
