General Tools Moisture Meter, Pin Type or Pinless, Temperature & Humidity (MMH800)

Works fine for me!

The media could not be loaded. I already have a damp meter that uses two prods that need to be pressed on the walls. We have a wall that registers damp, and as such, the prods tend to make imprints in the relatively soft plaster, and after repeated tests, the wall becomes unsightly.This General Tools Moisture Meter works in a different way. There is a pad on the back of the device that just needs to be placed on the surface in question to obtain a reading. There is an immediate colour-coded response, and the definite benefit of this meter for me is that it can be moved across a wall, obtaining continuous readings, therefore easily identifying the limits of a damp area. The other meter I have needs to probe the wall, then be moved elsewhere multiple times, leaving the wall like a pincushion.The instructions for the meter confirm that the readings are not absolute, but their relative nature means that differences in moisture can be readily identified. Certainly the readings are very different from those on my second meter: where this one gives a 100% reading, the other is giving around 20%. So there's no need to panic at a 100% high reading. However, using this meter I have been able to establish it is a chimney flue simply by the dogleg route I have been able to locate.Recommended.It is an excellent meter; not definitive but certainly indicative enough to enable me to proceed with sorting out the problem.

Pleased however metal mesh / beading or screws appear to set it off.

Brilliant. I tested this device out on an interior wall that had slightly discoloured plaster work. After alerting me to the presence of damp I removed a small section of the wall and discovered that piping connecting to the shower was indeed slowly leaking. This device has potentially saved me a lot of hassle and money and that's the best endorsement I can give it.

Ww already had a moisture meter which we use to test hardwood moisture prior to using and storing for our woodburner stove.This meter compares well with the levels but is easier to use, as just choose hardwood setting and press top back of the unit and get a very fast reading. Our previous one is slower and requires that its 2 prongs go into the wood, which can be tricky when wood a bit uneven and slows things down as have to ensure fully against the wood then the reading takes some time to settle.I will definitely use this new moisture meter in preference to our old one.

Amateur meter not for professional use, I used this next to a MMS2 and it offered differing readings, this machine is OK for occasional domestic use but not for a professional.

Extremely easy to use and having just 4 buttons on it, it's very self-explanatory. You will be able to figure it all out without a manual. The device even tells when your readings are within the dry range and when not. Very good.

Did the job I wanted

I'm a general contractor and I find myself occasionally having to test for moisture in a client's home. This is my second General Tool moisture meter. This model - the MMH800 - has more functions then my previous one including the ability to test for moisture as well as providing a temperature readout. The meter is a dual-function pin and pin-less model which allows testing without leaving holes in walls or woodwork.I had the opportunity to be on a customer site with a mold remediation tech who was taking moisture readings to determine possible wet areas that might have been contributing to a mold issue. The tech didn't tell me the model he was using other than it was a professional -series, scan-only type and that it was very accurate with a good scan depth. When I compared my readings from the MMH800 with the tech's meter I found very little differences in the readings.There is one inherent limiting factor with all pin meters and that is they only test to the depth of the pins, useful on drywall or wood but very limited on masonry and/or concrete. Concrete testing is virtually unreliable due to the penetration issue. The ability to take a scan reading alleviates some of that issue.What I like most about the MMH800 is that is reasonably accurate and affordable. Adding a moisture meter (along with a good gas sniffer) to my tool bag provides data which ultimately allows me to better serve my customers.

For the price paid I can't expect any more, got the work done.

I bought this gadget to detect water leakage within the walls of my house. While the gadget works well, I am not too sure of the accuracy of its readings. Nevertheless, it serves well if you are interested in checking out for any water leakages without asking for true readings.
