Revising review. Amazon refunded/replaced album quickly. New one arrived and it sounds super clean. No surface noise at all. Sounds great!! Thanks!!!! This was my initial review- Virtually unlistenable. Not even sure why I gave it two stars except it is such a great album. I bought this as a birthday present for myself as it was released on my birthday. I was excited to see it here today. It was with great anticipation that I dropped the needle. What followed was disappointing at best. The surface noise was the loudest I have ever heard from a new album. I cleaned it with a carbon brush to no avail. What I did hear wasnt impressive in respect to the sound of the recording. Bright and 2 dimensional. I have a very nice tube based system that shows the recording quality and this one wasnt impressive. The extreme amount of clicks makes this record not listenable. Perusing some other discussion groups it seems this is not an isolated incident.

Great 180gm vinyl, remastered and definitely sounds better than my old 1999 cd, love the entire album.

This is probably one of the best album of its era and I don’t think REM has any album that came close to this. I love every song and this remaster is so well done as compared to a lot of recent remastered vinyl. The copy I received is one of the quietest vinyl I bought in the past couple of years. Perhaps the quality problem that many have experienced has been corrected.

Finally, I now own a vinyl version of this album. I bought the CD when this album first came out (can't believe it has been 25 years already). The recording is clear and as good as the CD or digital.

This is a review of the 180-gram re-issue on vinyl. The vinyl quality is outstanding, this is a really nice re-issue and will be enjoyed by R.E.M. fans. So happy such an affordable release of this album is available now. And in light of that, when is an affordable re-issue of Monster going to be released? Waiting patiently for that one.

I really like this product

I also have had an issue with the vinyl pressing. On side B, there seems to be a defect on my record halfway through Nightswimming. Upon closer inspection it looks like a “dent” for lack of better words. Other than that, I don’t get a lot of noise at all from the record. A little disheartening.

I can't wait to open this up on Christmas morning. My husband is going to be excited. One of the best albums of all time!
