You just slip them over the back and down across the seat. Very easy as long as you have the type of chair shown.

I have 2 bench chairs with backs. i need 2 fairy butterfly that are 38 inches wide. any idea where i can find that?

You have to look it up on the web site. I've bought many sets of these covers and love them but I'm a customer same as you and have never bought the covers you refer to.

is it a dark brown or black on the flowerina pattern?

The product is available in many patterns/colors. Some of the thumbnail images on the product page are generic while most of the more detailed images correctly show the pattern and color you have selected. We selected a pattern of wavy black and brown lines on and off white background. We bought two sets on two separate occasions. Both times we received product that looked just like the detailed images on the Amazon product page.
