Take your time read through both books first !
The Murphy bed kit was pretty easy to put together overall. The instructions show you how much material to purchase and how each piece is cut out of the sheets of plywood & lumber. The cut list was easy to read and understand, even for a novice woodworker or a do it yourselfer. You get a detailed cut list in the first book, and a detailed assembly with pics in the second book.We substituted hardwood for the bed rails and the head rails of the bed, to make a little smoother side rail. This is a great kit for a queen sized bed, you'll enjoy it.

Excellent Murphy Bed Kit and Directions
The media could not be loaded. The Murphy bed kit is well-made and complete. The best feature are the two installation manuals that guide you step by step. To do this project you will need, good tools, especially a table saw or circular saw with a straight guide, quality lumber, space to lay out the work and materials, and time, lots of time. This is not a weekend build project if you want to look professional and work correctly. The directions are really good, just take your time to triple-check the measurements. If you notice in the pictures we have the install manuals on our worktop. We used a high-quality cabinet paint and a cheap paint sprayer and it turned out fantastic. The cost of materials is a real shock when starting this project, coming in at around $500 just for the stain-grade plywood and frame materials. However, this Murphy bed will last 10-20 years and can be unassembled and moved. Win-Win! The true test is when your company sleeps on it and they slept well, the cabinet made no creaking noises and felt solid. Thriple win!

Frustrating build
It was nice have set instructions for this build. Please note there are typos in the instructions and the biggest issue for me was the nylon spacers. Thank you to the other person in the reviews that mentioned it. We had to shave/ sand down our spacers by half the size otherwise it will cause the outer frame to bow out and warp like crazy. I am happy with the end result but it took us a few days to realize it was the spacers that cause the frame to warp. Another thing that I can’t seem to figure out is that our bed frame doesn’t close all the way. I need to add a latch at the top to keep it 100% close. I’m not sure if it’s the suspension or what but it just doesn’t close. I know that it’s not the bed stoppers since we tried taking it out.

Safety hazard. Bed sags with the included gas springs.
There are issues with the included gas springs, washers, ball studs, and machine screws, and instructions. The included gas springs should be holding the bed up flush against the wall but as stated by many other reviewers, the bed sags or does not close completely. The instructions state that if the bed sags, it means the ball studs for the gas springs were incorrectly placed however, after double checking the instructions, the ball studs were in fact correctly placed within 1/16th of an inch. It seems likely that many recent kits are being shipped with shorter (perhaps cheaper?) gas springs than what the instructions were written for. To make matters worse, if the bed is pushed flush against the wall, the gas springs will occasionally pop out creating a substantial safety hazard for my kids. The bed weighs over 100lb.The washers for the bed pivot are incorrectly sized. Other reviewers have resorted to cutting them. The machine screws are too thick to tightly fasten plates holding the ball joints to the 3/4 inch plywood. As a result, there is a fair amount of play. I wouldn't be surprised if they work their way out over time, again creating a safety hazard. The ball studs are not securely fastened to the ball plates. I had to tighten the lower ball studs with a pair of wrenches. The gas springs would otherwise pop out very frequently. Finally, the instructions are truly awful. The measurements for the bed stopper are in

Good hardware, detailed instructions, and helpful customer support!
I had a great experience with this queen-sized murphy bed kit. The cutting instructions were very thorough and easy to follow, as well as the step by step instructions for assembling the kit. At one point I thought I was missing a part (I wasn't, I just hadn't looked carefully enough) and when I emailed customer service about it they were very helpful, responsive, and kind. The bed turned out beautifully and I would definitely recommend this product.

A fun build project (but takes time)
This was a good learning project for someone without a lot of woodworking experience.I spent $569.80 at Lowes for the parts, and have lots of leftover screws, and a lot of extra plywood -- you need four sheets of 3/4" thick, 4'x8' plywood to make the bed, but this leaves enough scraps to make a large set of book shelves. This isn't a one person job -- the completed bed is heavy, and the instructions explain two people are needed for the final assembly. It would have been nice to have a table say for the initial cuts, but I was able to do them all using a circular saw, and clamping other plywood to make a guide. The instructions provided are quite good (a few spelling errors), but at the end I did swap the 1/2" nylon spacer and 1/16" washer as compared to the instructions. Using the 1/2" spacer between the bed and the frame splayed the frame outwards, but when I used the washer instead the bed was square. The total project took me several Saturdays spread over a few months, but the end result is satisfying!

Sturdy, Solid Build; Great for Amateur Builders
Together, my pregnant partner and I were able to knock the majority of this build out over three weekends (~10 hrs each weekend, including gathering materials, preparing cuts, waiting for glue, etc.). Specifically, the build quality of materials provided is excellent. We've had no issues with the installation, outside of personal mishaps or placement of cuts/holes. I'd recommend this DIY kit for anyone who has tackled smaller carpentry projects or are willing to take things slowly. We were impressed with how after bringing everything together, it fit the first time around! This built-in is flanked by Ikea kitchen cabinets in the image.
