RACE 07: The Official WWTC Game (PC DVD)

Despite the 'arcade' look of the cover, this is a really good racing simulation. I play a lot of racing games (f1 2012, wrc3, Forza, Granturismo academy edition) and in my opinion it's very rare to find a racing game that is perfect, I near enough struck gold when I found this game! as long as you have an ok graphics card, the graphics are brilliant. however if you don't have a good graphics card, just turn the graphics down a little. One thing I must point out, the experience is enhanced with a steering wheel and I strongly recommend a wheel too but it is still playable with a keyboard. I would recommend race07 to ages 8+ purely because some of the cars are quite hard to drive. Classes- Mini, Caterham, Formula 3000 (NOT formula1), Formula BMW, WTCC06, WTCC07. Mods are available free on internet websites. (Mods are way of freely upgrading and customizing games, a little experience is needed for 'modding' though, there are a lot of websites that help you with this). Well worth the money, I think you get more than you pay for!

Installed this on my XP laptop. Attempted three times to play it. Three times it blue screened my computer ("Your computer has just recovered from a serious error, memory dump etc" message).It tried to blame my hardware, changed hardware, same message at same point. Shame. I think I've learned my lesson now.

This is the sort of 'game' you really have to want to play, before you will play it.Although I thought it was a fantastic game, it really wasn't for me. Without being too familiar with the terminology at the time, I was looking for an arcade racing game that my laptop could play.The cars handled really well, and racing with 30 cars on the track is a unique experience. However, if you want to do well at this game, it requires a LOT of practice.In my experience there was a race-breaking glitch where, if I entered the pits with flag rules on, I would get an instant yellow flag after leaving the pits, which would oblige me to enter the pits for a penalty the next lap, and I'd eventually get disqualified because of this. Way to end two hours of racing!

Good game

RACE 07 is simulation racing game. There's a decent range of cars, but it isn't as comprehensive as modern racing games. There's a range of Touring cars, in addition to Formula 1 and Mini Coopers.There's enough difficulty customisation options so you can create the racing experience you want. ABS, Traction and Stability can be tweaked to change the way your car handles, damage effects can be changed to limit/enhance punishment from mistakes, and opposition's driving ability can be changed to give you harder competition.There's a great selection of cameras. I was particularly impressed by the behind wheel view, which can also include restricted view from your driver's helmet. The mirrors on your car actually work, and you can pan the camera around the inside of your car.Despite the age of the game, it holds up well. The bad side is the loading times are very long.The events are played out over two races. The first race you have a rolling start, whereas the second has a standing start. Finishing in the top 8 out of 24 scores you points, and there's enough variance in the driver's finishing times to mean you can often win the event by winning one race and achieving a respectable finish on the second.The main tournament has an interesting mechanic where the better drivers incur a weight penalty which should theoretically slow them down and keep things competitive. It's nice to see a racing game take into account human error (not demand you finish in the top 2 all the time to win), and also desire to keep things competitive if there is a runaway leader.If you break the rules, you can be punished. You are warned for cutting the corners, dangerously driving, or making a false start. One of the penalties is a StopNGo penalty, where you need stop in the pit, then instantly leave. Fail to adhere to this, and you are disqualified. If you are performing poorly, and drivers are coming up behind you to lap you, you are instructed to yield to them and let them overtake.If you are a fan of racing games, or want to pick up a bargain game, then I'd definitely recommend Race 07.

It's just there isn't much of it.Yes, you go through the season and yes you can drive the caterham pack now, but it's very limited really. The cars are limited and even though this game is brilliant to drive with a steering wheel (I use a Saitek R440), it makes more sense to buy rFactor if you want a driving game...
