How to Survive the Loss of a Love
In 1982 when I was going through the excruciating painful loss of my first true love, this book given to me by a friend who saw my suffering, literally saved my life. Since then for every “loss of a love” I turn to read for the umpteen times How to Survive the Loss of a Love. I have bought and gifted many friends the book. I just gave my last copy to a friend who lost her partner, Faye, the love of her life for over 40 years. I recommend gifting this book to every teenager in your life, you may prevent a suicide. A book you can use often
I had this book back in the early '80's and couldn't find it any more so I ordered a used book to have it on hand. It is a terrific book to get you through difficult times with relationships, death of loved ones, or loss of something dear to you (like your pet). Give yourself this as a gift to you.

An investment in superb Emotional First Aid.
My copy is a used, older edition, so the pages were a little stiff, and had browned. Beyond that? If recommend this book as emotional first aid for anyone going through loss, and have referred to it multiple times since I first encountered it years ago. It's not a replacement for, say, counseling, but it doesn’t set out to be. It helps to take the edge off a loss.

Helpful
I first read this after the loss of my mother. I have given it to friends when they are going through a divorce. It is a wonderful, easy to read book, that discusses the steps of grief. I love the use of poems and quotes also. A loss can be a divorce, a breakup, a move, or a death. It has been very helpful to me.

I bought this book as a gift for a dear friend as it comforted me many years ago. Light self-help read.

Excellent Guide for Loss management! A grief resource.
I purchased the Hardcover for a friend who recently had a loss! Unfortunately, Amazon did not send 2 hardcovers as I had ordered! I was sent 1 paper back and 1 hardcover! I was quite disappointed! The book is an essential grief guide! It gently and professionally helps you cope with the pain of loss! I purchased the book originally in 1976 as I ended a love affair! I referred to it again in 1981 following my fathers death, in 2004 on hearing my diagnosis of a serious illness, in 2006 upon my retirement from 35 years of employment and in 2010 when my beloved husband died! My 1976 copy is written in with little pictures and faces that I've drawn, names, dates and my thoughts and feelings at that time...my personal diary! An excellent book!

dated advice actually
my therapist recommended this for me as I was breaking up with my boyfriend for the third time. The poetry was the best thing about the book and in some ways has helped me cope better and not return to my usual habits which allowed him back in.
