I’m pleased with the overall look in a high-ceilinged room. Cannot comment on ease of painting and the cutting-to-size cuz workmen did all that. I wanted the deeper moulding since the room has a high ceiling and can handle that look.

Yes, its more expensive than the cheap wood or composite crown options at Home Depot, but its also much lighter, easier to work with and has held up beautifully since we installed throughout the house 3 years ago. I did roughly 1250 sq ft with brad nails in a nail gun and Decofix pro adhesive. Used a sliding compound miter saw for the corners and went to town. It produces a fine white dust when cut that I can't imagine is good to breathe so make sure you've got a real respirator (but you should be doing that with wood too). I didn't prime, just rolled Sherwin Williams on. If I were doing it over, I would have sprayed paint first, then installed, and touched up after. Acrylic painters caulk on the seams, not a bad DIY job at all! Take your time and learn how to cut crown miters but otherwise anyone can do it with care and attention.
