The provision of sustainable energy supplies for an expanding and increasingly productive world is one of the major issues facing civilization today. Renewable Energy: Power for a Sustainable Future, Third Edition, examines both the practical and economic potential of the renewable energy sources to meet this challenge. The underlying physical and technological principles behind deriving power from direct solar (solar thermal and photovoltaics), indirect solar (biomass, hydro, wind, and wave) and non-solar (tidal and geothermal) energy sources are explained, within the context of their environmental impacts, their economics, and their future prospects. Together with its companion volume, Energy Systems and Sustainability, Second Edition (OUP, 2012, 9780199593743), this book provides both perspective and detail on the relative merits and state of progress of technologies for utilizing the various "renewables." The analysis considers emissions, sustainability, cost implications, and energy security, as political and economic pressures move society towards a low-carbon future. From an overview of basic energy conversion processes to a discussion of the individual renewable sources to a concluding examination of the prospects for their integration into national and international networks, Renewable Energy: Power for a Sustainable Future, Third Edition, provides a valuable insight into prospects for the renewables. FEATURES Covers all principal sources of renewable energy currently being exploited Uses an interdisciplinary approach in considering economic, social, environmental, and policy issues Rich pedagogy including detailed color illustrations and tables of data COMPANION WEBSITE (www.oup.com/uk/orc/bin/9780199545339) For students: Self-assessment questions and links to further information and up-to-date energy statistics For instructors: Figures from the book in electronic format (available to registered adopters of the book) Review: Great, readable, comprehensive review of alternative energy - Excellent book. While reads like a textbook, the information is accurate, up to date, and complete. Lots of illustrations and diagrams to make the material easier to understand. Moderate understanding of math needed to do the calculations, but if all you're looking for is a review of alternative energy and its place in the world, this will be great for you. My professor used this book as a textbook for our Renewable Energy in the Pacific Northwest class. I won't be returning it. Review: Great Book - Is a nice book. Has several and updated information about renewables. Is UK centric but also explain world situation. Is so easy to understand, even to people with low knowledge in power engineering. As a Mechanical engineer, I could say is a great book to get a global knowledge about renewables. Full Color book, several topics, writers, pictures. Recommended book.

Comprehensive and effective
The Third Edition provides current, up to date information and does a great job connecting the science of renewable energy to "real life," while still ensuring the reader learns the fundamentals of the science. The text produces an educated reader able to effectively apply learned information where it matters. The text addresses renewable energy specifics of the UK much more than specifics elsewhere in the world. More information on renewable energy as it applies to different countries and regions would be beneficial.

Saved the Day
My teacher mumbles constantly and looks like he had hit a small child with his car thirty years ago and told nobody about it and now its eating him alive. Without this I probably would have failed his course. 10/10

Its a Renewable Energy A-Z
There aren't many boxes this book does tick. For those simply wishing to know what the fuss is all about to academics and professionals this book takes the subject and assumes you know nothing, then leads you through the theory to real life examples. Some chapters (each chapter is devoted to a technology e.g. wind, solar) are stronger than others, but all stick to the excellent method and do so well. Recommended for anyone with an interest - but certainly A Level to PhD studies on the topic will not be disappointed. (NB - this 3rd edition is very similar to the 2nd (which I had previously) with general updates to the figures used and real life examples, to bring it up to date. The style and theoretical content are pretty much identical)

Great customer service
Bought an older textbook for a class and was difficult to find. I needed to purchase out of country and found it here at a great price! Book was used and stated very good condition. The book arrived in less then a week (2-3 week estimated shipping) and came damaged. I contacted the seller who responded promptly and offered a partial refund as I did need the book. Exactly what I need and fantastic customer service, would buy from them if required again!
