All-Purpose Axe Most Anyone Can Handle
This is a good all-purpose axe, with a curved, lightly varnished 24” hickory wood handle. When evaluating an axe, hickory and ash are the best choices for a handle, and you want the wood grain to run lengthwise, as it does on this axe. The rings on the end of the axe should be narrow and tight; it makes the handle less likely to split. This axe has decently narrow rings. The handle feels good and is easy to grip; purists will say varnish can make a handle slippery, but this felt fine to me.The head is made of 1.5 lbs of hand-forged steel, with a tempered edge. (You want at least the cutting edge to be tempered because this makes it less brittle.) The head is attached with a steel and wooden wedge. The whole axe only weighs 3lbs, and this combined with the relatively short and controllable length of the handle makes it a good choice for beginners, as well as for those who want an easy-to-handle tool for smaller jobs. The blade is sharp and it made short work of some smaller pieces of downed wood I tested it on. This will be great for splitting firewood for camping, including making kindling. I felt the axe to be well proportioned and easy to swing with sufficient force.I appreciated the included compact leather sheath; it covers the cutting edge and is small enough to put in my pocket while I work so I don’t risk losing it/leaving it behind as I have done with larger ones in the past. All in all, I’m really happy with this axe and I look forward to using it for many years to come.

Good axe
This is a decent axe for the price. I bought my husband for Christmas a couple years ago a Gränsfors Bruks foresters awe. They are an amazing axe but you feel it in the pocketbook! This axe is not of that caliber but it is a fraction of the cost. For someone who is utilizing it for a camping trip or cleaning up the yard or clearing trails it’s totally sufficient. I ordered it for him to use on the trap line because he may need to chop out tree roots or chip out frozen turf for a set. He obviously doesn’t want to use his high end axe for such tasks. This Forester woodsman axe is perfect for this purpose. The finish on the head is a bit unclean but this is just a visual impairment. The edge is sharp. We have not been able to test its ability to hold the edge yet. The handle has nice lines and a bit glossy on the finish which we will sand off and replace with an oil/wax treatment. The finish will wear off with use and it can become slippery with snow. We cut and chopped 10-15 cords of firewood a year. We live in a very cold climate in northern Minnesota. We use axes and mauls all the time. I would order this axe again but it is not available to compete with our Gränsfors axe in quality. That said, it’s a good all purpose axe and I believe it will fit the needs of most folks looking for a good multi purpose tool.

Not good
I bought this hatchet in September and used it for the first time in December just to split some small pieces of wood for my camping stove and the handle broke. I didn’t miss and hit the handle it just popped off. The axe head looks to be casted not forged like advertised. Over all I can’t recommend this small axe. Very disappointed.

crude casting
This forster axe would not cut melted butter. It is not hand forged but drop forged (hot metal poured into a mold). Not what I expected for the price. Crude casting and is not swedish steel. (I hand forge custom knives from logging cable.)

Medium duty axe
Why only 3 stars because of the price tag in comparison to similar axes. Medium duty in my opinion not going to use take down a tree with it. It’s going in my sidebyside take care of small brush, limbs or to split small pieces of wood for kindling.

Nice ax
This is a nice looking ax. It seems to be well made and fiscnice in my hand. It’s not too heavy for me and is easy to use. While I haven’t used it to chop down anything I did test the sharpness by hitting some random wood in my yard. It seems to be sharp.I like that it has a cover for it to protect the blade.Overall I am happy with this ax. I would recommended.
