D.O.A.: A Right of Passage

Flawed but get it anyway
It is a drag that the movie has been altered. For instance, in the great opening scene, it is a different, live version of the song "nightclubbing" playing, At least 2 other songs are also not the same. I read Lech Kowalski is very unhappy about this. Still, this is such a great classic movie. The main focus is the Sex Pistols tour of America. The footage is spectacular, and there is really cool footage from the UK bands and scene at the time, as well as California. The movie is like a mish mash of a bunch of things, I like that there is no real plot or focus, its a lot of cool footage of the punk scene at the time, and lots of footage of fans and other people, its a fascinating time capsule. Though this dvd release is flawed, Id still recommend it.The bonus feature of a full length documentary is great; I would have liked commentaries though. I found it irritating that I paid 27 dollars on amazon when this came out, now its 8 or 9 dollars cheaper. Why should real fans, who want to buy things right when they come out, have to pay more money? IN the future I will wait a few months to buy new releases as the price seems to drop.

This is a great documentary of the time of Punk.
This was a replacement from my original from the 80's that suffered ....Needless to say it is still a great documentary of the Punk Revolution and the changes as they were transpiring. Some of the best video footage ever of that time.

Classic
Worth it for the Sid and Nancy interview (RIP) and a look at how narrow-minded the press and politicians were (are). Great tunes.

Review of the Blu Ray not the Movie itself.
Buyer beware...This is not the same cut as the original. The Augustus Pablo song at the end credits has been replaced with another reggae song which I don't even think is a dub song from the 70's era. Also the tape hiss on the transfer is almost unbearable. It sounds like they just transferred the film off of a VHS copy. Mind you this is a great document of the time, but it is a little pricey. I only recommend buying if you are a die-hard Pistols fan.Other than that it's not really worth it...

Tremendous Capture Of A Classic!
D.O.A. is mainly considered a document of The Sex Pistols infamous and short USA tour. But it's really a front line look at the revolution of punk rock, in England and the U.S. The vast differences, yet the amazing similarities. From crusty conservatives to crass cowboys that loathed the first waves of punk. To the youth that were excited for an outlet and to be a part of something again. The film is sporadic in how it hops back and forth across "the big pond", but begins to blend in singularity the sound and the momentum punk fans were adopting. Antagonistic and lost on one hand, as fans and hopefuls saw punk as an easy excuse for their hostilities and easy fame. Liberating and admiring on the other hand, as many on both sides put a lot of work and guts into their music and performances and image. And leaves the viewer to their own surmising if punk was a good or bad thing at the end, but with a better understanding why it ignited in the first place, and what perpetuated it. MVD did a stellar job, especially with the extras! Taking one DEEP into the making of the film, and all the complications around it. Music by the people, for the people - freely. Yet, was potentially profitable and highly political, so keep all cameras away! Awkward but amazing coverage that captures the large ethos of the punk revolution!

Changed how people thing of punk
I rate this DVD high. The sound is so-so but documentary wise this DVD marks a time period when pre-hard core punk was at its peak. Along with the overrated and underrated bands we see some bands that were smothered by the over-exposure of the cash cows that put out one record. So if you are looking for good footage look elsewhere. But if you want good documentation of the bands that changed how people thing of punk - this is for you.

punk classic
This was something i had been forever searching for when i was young. I was thrilled so see it available on dvd reissued. Watching brought back great memories of my punk day past. All those stories I heard about, was well documented in this film. not only a classic, but a great source of punk history.

The film looks and sounds as good as it can
This review is for the MVD blu-rayFinally getting this is a real treat. The film looks and sounds as good as it can, and the feature length doc on the film itself is just as good.
