Fantastic Headlamp!!!
Holy cow - this thing is bright!!! On its brightest setting, it sure turns night into day. Even the low setting gives plenty of light if you're walking a trail or performing a task with others where blinding them is frowned upon. The adaptive technology seemed to work as advertised; there was just a small brief delay when auto transitioning up and down. I use mine for search and rescue and really need more light over weight concerns. I bought an extra battery and keep a USB charging device in my backpack - thus I tend to leave the light turned up high when maneuvering through thick stuff. The battery surprised me and lasted longer than anticipated. Even without reading the instructions, it was pretty intuitive changing the brightness and turning on/off the adaptive feature. Fit on every helmet we tried. Pricey, but well worth the money if you need a good, rugged dependable light source in rough terrain.

The BEST headlight, but with two BIG flaws: no strobe, buggy software
I bought one of these for work, then I bought another one to use while running, then a friend was impressed with it so I bought one for him... I've bought 3 (so far) so they must be pretty good. This us a really nice, bright, light. It is lightweight and comfortable. The battery recharges with an iphone charger. Most impressive is the brighness. It is not as bright as a car headlight, but the beam is more focused so it appears more noticable and dazzling to car drivers. I have a bunch of nike 'flash' jackets which are very reflective but car drivers still come dangerously close. I have tried a couple lesser headlights from streamlight, energizer, etc, and they make no difference. With this light, the majority of cars can see me and move over. Some drivers flash their full beams back, as confirmation that they see and acknowledge me. However, I really wish there was a strobe feature to make the light even more attention-getting. I have had a couple close calls even with this light, and with this light you can see inside cars and see the drivers staring at their phones. A strobe feature would help get the attention of distracted drivers. The computer software used to customize the different modes has a lot of nice functionality, but it's a joke to use. It doesn't work at all on mac osx if you have a retina screen. Half of the stuff just can't be clicked on. I set my headlight up in windows running vmware fusion, but I later found out it will work if you have an old, non-retina screen. It worked at my shop when the computer was connected to my thunderbolt screen. At this price level, even as good as the light itself is, to have no strobe or flash feature, and buggy software is kind of inexcusable. It would be really neat if you could program in different strobe patterns. Pretty please, Petzl? I'll buy more if you update them! As it is, it is still as visible on full beam even without flashing as other lights are in disco-mode. Also, the reactive lighting feature works very well, I use it a lot on the trail and at work, but it's pretty much unusable in traffic (as you might expect)

The new standard!
I don't do reviews (since Amazon jiggered the review ranking system),but every so often I make an exception. This is a product that is both an exception to my "no review" policy and exceptional in execution. This one does it all. It is a smart headlamp that is equally at home on your head or helmet. It senses what you are doing and adjusts the light to meet the demand. If you are on a trail after dark, the long distance beam is on. Stop to check the map & GPS and the lamp dims to the level needed for that close-up work. Petzl has created "reactive lighting" and has done it very well, indeed. The headlamp has a rechargeable battery (N.B. it comes with the battery disconnected - you have to open the battery case and plug in the battery before you charge it for the first time). The battery charges from the ubiquitous USB connector (a male connector is part of the battery case). Your battery life can be very short - less than 2 hrs - if your use requires constant highest light output (way brighter than any other headlamp I've ever used, including a Carbide Lamp!), or it may exceed 50 hours of continuous use in the average camping/hiking situation. A slick feature is the ability to replace the rechargeable battery with two AAA cells (at a loss of some brightness and automatic functions) if your rechargeable battery is discharged. Given the ubiquitious USB adaptor for automobiles and backpacking solar panels, switching to standard AAA cells won't be a common choice - but it is nice to have an alternative when necessary! It gets even better! Petzl has created a program to tweak the headlamp! A free download for Mac & Windows machines, the Petzl application allows you to name your headlamp and the battery, as well as to store up to four (4) "profiles" for your headlamp. The standard is Petzl's "Multi-activites" profile. You can choose to include three other profiles (including ones that you create!). Petzl provides the standard as well as: "around-the-house", "bivouac", "Mountaineering", "Orienteering Race", "Trekking / Hiking", and "Caving/Spelunking". The only activity I don't believe this headlamp is appropriate for is open-water / white-water rafting & kayaking. It is not "submerged" waterproof though it handled a brief afternoon mountain downpour without harm. It's fairly pricey until you factor in the cost of disposable batteries. If you use your headlamp often and frequently have to adjust the light level (as I always do when tying on a new fly) your battery costs will offset the price in six months, or less. Love it!

Not impressed. Just buy the Petzl tikka. I have 3 and they're bulletproof.
Received this really nice headlamp Ive been eyeing for a while. Broke down and bought it....I got a completely different model than advertised. worked for about 2 minutes and nothing. I have many Petzl headlamps and they're very easy to operate. Tried websites for a quick fix. Can't seem to reach seller, so... pain to return. Price was average. Just expected more.

Bright, but with limitations
It's very bright and rechargeable. It is bulky and a bit heavy. It is also quite complicated to use at first. Overall, I would go for one with regular batteries unless you need the rechargeable feature. Not a particularly good value, quite expensive.

Great Light but don't buy..!!!
Headlight functions well outdoors. Held up well in heavy rain. However, the battery stopped charging and it didn't even go through 20 charging cycles. If that wasn't bad enough, getting a replacement battery is virtually impossible. Sellers on Amazon are all out of stock and the battery is a specially made 18650 lithium rechargeable battery with a 3 wire micro molex connector that is extremely difficult to source.

Liked NAO 1 so much, I bought NAO 2!
This is my second Petzl NAO. In my review of the first, I said that it might seem a bit silly to blow a couple of hundred dollars on a headlamp, and perhaps it is; but after trying several cheapo sporting-goods-store lights, and finding them all totally inadequate, I decided to bite the bullet. To my surprise, this unit proved well worth its exorbitant cost. It's amazing how much more you can see with it than with cheap units, or with a hand-held flashlight, even a fairly powerful one. The light field is much broader; it literally turns night into day in your immediate vicinity, and its effective range is perhaps 100 yards at full power. The light is always pointing where you are looking, and you have both hands free to do tasks, which is a big improvement over holding a flashlight with one hand and trying to do everything with the other, or attempting to prop the light against something so you can use two hands. It's also rechargeable. (Remember to open the battery compartment and connect the battery before charging it the first time.) In a pinch you can also use disposable batteries, but I would suggest buying a couple of extra rechargeables, to carry as spares. The unit is light, and very comfortable; after a while you almost forget that you're wearing it. The "reactive lighting" feature, which automatically dims the illumination for close-in work or map reading, is very handy. If you do a fair amount of work (or play) in darkness, you will find this light well worth its stiff price tag. As with most things, you get what you pay for.

Couldn't be happier with the head lamp
I purchased this item for my husband for Christmas in 2012, after having done much research, trying to find the best head lamp I could. He had never had one before. He does a lot of work around the house and often asks me to hold a flashlight up so that he can see in dark spaces. It dawned on me that this would come in handy for him to work individually more... as well as to use it outdoors for hiking, running, going into the yard in the dark (as we live in the country). He was initially shocked that I'd gotten a head lamp for him and wondered if he needed it. He now uses it ALL the time. He uses it in the attic, working on cars, outdoors in the dark, working on RC airplanes - you name it. He has told me many times how much he appreciates it. I also know that it was an excellent purchase because one of his co-workers, who is an avid sportsman, was in the market for a head lamp and asked to see my husband's before his purchase. He had researched head lamps as well and told my husband that he had the most up-to-date and excellent technology in head lamps in the market. He wanted one as well! My husband loves that you can dim the lights to suit your needs, and that they dim automatically according to its determination of the need for light at the time. It is well-constructed, easy to use, and a very useful tool. I also bought him the extra battery for Christmas last year. We find, however, that this head lamp actually keeps its charge a very long time and he hasn't had to use the extra battery much at all. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.

Platzhirsch #1
Naja ;-)

Ottimo prodotto e consegna veloce.
