Excellent value for one purchasing from the USA
I am in the USA and purchased this saw from Amazon UK because the price was a fraction of what it would be in the USA. Shipping was inexpensive and prompt. The saw cut fast and straight when I received it, but I reduced the set slightly to narrow the kerf and for my purposes this helps me better maintain a straight cut. The brass back is quite substantial and the weight seems just right to aid in cutting. The handle is tight and of a good size for my average size hand and well angled for me as I believe it would be for most people. The handle might be reshaped slightly for personal comfort. I plan to relieve the edges of mine slightly, but this is a matter of personal preference. I believe this saw is a very good tool as it comes, but I am also pleased that it allows one to fine tune it to meet one's own needs or preferences. I am finding it very satisfying to use and an excellent value.

Nice, heavy and built to last.
It's definitely robustly made and the quality is much better than expected for the price. Make no mistake - this isn't near to be on par with Lie Nielson or Veritas, but neither is the price. The question most people will want to know is: Is it good enough??? The answer is probably yes, but it depends what you plan to use it for. Lots of new woodworkers dream about hand cut dovetails, and if that's what you want to do with this then I would point out that it's a tenon saw not a dovetail saw. It's pretty decent for quick rip curds and not terrible at acceptable cross cuts but it is NOT designed for dovetails and although you could use it for this they wouldn't be nearly as good as what you could achieve with a decent dovetail or carcass saw. I think it would've been better if it had a traditional tooth set.

Really lovely saw, worth every penny. Superb cut.
I have been using what can only be described as 'cheap' saws for as long as I can remember. Now I have ben asked to produce a couple of rather better quality items, so I thought I should upgrade my tools a little bit to ensure a fine finish. This saw is lovely. The weight of the brass top edge ensure there is sufficient pressure on the cut with almost no effort from the person sawing. The cut itself is clean and sharp edged, with very little finishing required. It has a very fine kerf, too, so I am hoping the joints I will have to cut will be a neat, snug fit. Not the cheapest saw in the world but worth the extra money to get such a nice piece of kit in the workshop. I keep this one hanging on the workshop wall rather than chucking it into my toolbar with all the cheapies!

Top saw
Nice saw, just the same as the one I had when I an apprentice nearly 46 years ago. I had bought a more expensive make but to me it didn't feel right, the blade was too thin and flexible. S&J aren't really known for producing top tier tools but I think they have made one here.

Excellent quality
A great saw at an economical price. With its brass back, this is a weighty saw which feels far more solid and professional than the tradesmans tools you get in the DIY stores. Conventional teeth, rather than the Japanese style tooth, gives a smooth and accurate cut. A basic handle which is perfectly comfortable, but not decorative as you may get on a more expensive saw. The blade arrives with some sort of lacquer to prevent rust, and this is best removed with paint thinner and wire wool to prevent the saw grabbing in the cut. A little candle wax rubbed lightly on the blade also makes it run more easily.

Big upgrade over disposable saws
I bought this as I was fed up with induction hardened disposable saws, I wanted something I could sharpen or alter the tooth geometry to suit specific tasks. The sasw feels comfortable, and as it's a wooden handle you could reshape to suit. It's feel solid and balanced in the hand. It cuts beautifully, fast and accurate. Cuts start easily. For this price it's an amazing saw, if you've only ever used the disposable saws with plastic handles give this a try.

4 years on since buying this saw, I can say that it's a very nice saw. Especially for the price. The teeth hold an edge while still being easy to sharpen. Backbone is rigid, the blade straight. The handle/grip isn't the most comfortable, but it's easy enough to reshape for a custom fit (very helpful if your hands are obscenely large). I have nothing bad to say about this saw except for the lacquer coating on the blade. Yes, it probably protects it from rust, but it also gets gummy and sticky in the wood after a few long cuts. However, it wipes off in a blink with acetone. Unfortunately, that also removes the maker's name, but I doubt that's going to be a deal breaker for anyone. Bottom line: i see no reason this saw shouldn't last a hobby woodworker for decades.
