Review: I taught a 200-level site design course in landscape architecture at a university this semester, while also studying for Section 3 Site Design of the LARE. In the process, I went through 4 texts. I took the exam 4 days ago. These are my thoughts: 1. Site Analysis (LaGro) is the best for explaining the design process. 2. Sustainable Sites is a good one to have and review if you're studying for licensure and to reinforce sustainability in design. 3. Timesaver's Standards for Landscape Architecture is an excellent desk reference, the absolute best for technical information, and also the priciest. If a new edition is ever published, it would be my favorite. 4. Right now, Landscape Architectural Graphic Standards - Student Edition is the best all-around for the money, with a lot of the technical stuff from Timesaver's at a slightly lower cost, with the advantage of being published more recently - so it includes more current design theories and applications like Transit Oriented Design, etc. If you can afford it, I'd pick this book up as soon as you can because it's an awesome resource. 5. Section 3 was really heavy on types of plans, their applications, and planning processes, and I wish I had spent slightly less time studying all the technical details, although you do need to know the basics of ADA, lighting, and calculating volume of fill. 6. Part 1 of Planning & Urban Design Standards - Student Edition is a great source of the planning stuff, the only downside is that a large portion of that book is really similar to LA Graphic Standards. In retrospect, I would study P&UDS and LAGS, with a review of Sustainable Sites for Section 3, assuming you already know the design process :)

This is a well edited and well organized book. I purchased it as an elective material for a class at UNM and have been using it since. Great choice, good graphics, clear and complete! A good purchase.

GET THIS BOOK TO STUDY FOR THE LARE, USEFUL IN ALL SECTIONS. MUCH MORE RELEVANT AND UP TO DATE THAN Time Saver Standards For Landscape Architecture.

The book is has good explanations of construction graphics. It may have other good content but it was bought for an engineering class on construction documents.
