Gianlorenzo Bernini (1598-1680), architect, painter, but above all sculptor, had a career that spanned almost three quarters of a century. He worked under six different popes and was instrumental in the ornamentation of Baroque Rome, from the colonnade of St. Peter to the fountains in piazza Navona and piazza di Spagna, from the many stunning sculptural groups in the churches and palaces of Rome to the dozens of 'speaking portraits', which depict cardinals, popes, kings and intellectuals of his time. Excellent, beautiful book. Worth every penny!
This book is phenomenal. The photographic plates are gorgeous, and the text is detailed and illuminating. The delicacy and realism in his sculptures are amazing just on a technical level. They are also very beautiful. Anyone interested in Italian Renaissance art will love this book.

Comprehensive text and Amazing photo plates.
Didn't see this at the Borghese last December when we went, but so glad to find it on Amazon. Goes well beyond Bernini's works at The Borghese. The photo plates are fantastic. Very well done book. Somethings digital cannot replace and this book and Bernini's sculptures are two of them.

Really good book and print
Nice, big images and quality paper, thick elegant hardcover, well written, with many details about the author and his work in a pretty big size and pretty thick book.

Truly master works with interesting insights and history
This is quite a treat if your looking to not only see fantastic works of the Baroque period but the in depth history of the arts conception.

Uma merecida obra sobre Bernini
Bernini é um dos poucos escultores que pode ser alçado à genialidade de Michelangelo. Com trabalhos fenomenais, riquíssimos em detalhes e na anatomia, é inegável que o artista, assim como Michelangelo, tinha um alto grau de conhecimento do corpo humano. Bernini fazia do mármore seu tecido. Sua arte é inquestionável. Esse livro mostra um pouco de seu legado, de seu talento - e de como esse mundo já foi rico, no quesito arte.

OK but not wide-ranging enough
All those who viewed the exhibition at the Galleria Borghese will find this book a useful souvenir but those who did not make it to Rome will find it less than a satisfactory account of Bernini's miraculous genius. The book is a catalogue but not a comprehensive monograph.
