Works great, but made of plastic and does not include 30-pin connector for older iOS devices.
I don't need the built-in microphones for my purposes, but wound up purchasing the Sonic Port VX over the Sonic Port primarily because it will keep my iPad charged while using it with an electric guitar. Disappointing that the original Sonic Port doesn't have that obvious functionality.I can't speak for the microphones, but otherwise the Sonic Port VX works flawlessly as a guitar input for my iPad and then outputting to both headphones and an external PA, mixing board, or guitar amp (it also outputs to the headphone jack and the 1/4" outputs simultaneously, though with a single volume control for both). Awesome that the left 1/4" output sums a stereo signal when used alone into a guitar amplifier - that's a big plus over using Apogee Jam or an iRig Pro. The Sonic Port VX works far better than the iRig 2 I was using before and eliminates a lot of hum and noise present with the iRig 2. When connected, the Sonic Port VX also unlocks the iOS mobile POD app which has now made my old PODxt pretty much obsolete.Unfortunately, the Sonic Port VX housing is made of plastic, and feels pretty cheap as a result in comparison to my old Line6 PODxt, which has a metal housing and feels far more robust. Not sure why Line6 would decide to make the Sonic Port VX out of plastic when they market it as being a portable recording solution, and thus would be subject to a fair amount of abuse. Loved that my PODxt had a durable metal housing. Feels like this would get damaged pretty easily if you're not careful. The microphone stand it comes with is also made of cheap plastic and probably won't endure much abuse either. Nice that they do include a 5/8" to 3/8" microphone stand adapter so you're covered if you need to mount it to pretty much any microphone stand though.Very disappointing that Line6 does not include a 30-pin connector for older iOS devices like they do with the regular Sonic Port. So beware: Sonic Port VX only comes with a Lightning cable. Had to track down and separately purchase a 30-pin connector in order to use the Sonic Port VX with my older iPad 2 ( Part #: Line 6 21-34-0230 3-Foot iOS Cable), which works fine except it won't charge older 30-pin devices (minus a second star). What will definitely not work is attempting to use the USB cable supplied with the Sonic Port VX and an Apple USB camera kit with a 30-pin connector. In sum, it works great, but only three stars for lack of a more durable housing and full backward compatibility support for older iOS devices.

One of the best mobile I/O
Love my VX! I had a number of other i/o interfaces for playing guitar on the road, but none of them were very flexible, nor did they include a microphone. The built in microphones are great for tracking ambient sounds for samples, recording from amplifier, or recording acoustic instruments.I usually use this with Garageband on iOS for on the go recording, and with Logic at home.VX provides three modes;- 1/4 Input + Mono Microphone. I find I use this for recording acoustic from the microphone & taking the output from the electronics. One signal gets sent to the L and one to the R. Very easy to set to record to separate tracks in most audio applications.- Stereo Microphone ( L / R ). Moving the VX around will net all sorts of different results. Great for ambient sounds.- 1/4 Input. This is probably my least used mode.

DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE ON IOS 13
I also own the iRig Pro which sounds fantastic as a guitar input but lacks the stereo aux input and multiple line outs like the Port VX, nor can it charge my 'iDevices' while the interface is in use. This is what made me purchase the Port VX mainly and in that aspect I am extremely happy with the VX. It's very versatile and that the VX also has built-in microphones is a bonus to me but not the main reason I got it. I have to say though that the microphones sound absolutely fantastic and that it inspires me to actually make a first attempt at doing some vocals although I'm mainly an electric guitar player.I did a side by side comparison of the Port VX and iRig Pro to hear if there is a big difference in guitar input sound quality between the two, but they both sound great to me and almost identical. Both do a great job at keeping the noise level very low. Although I do like the gain control knob on the iRig Pro which is not present on the VX, it doesn't seem to be a big deal with the VX since I get a very solid signal level from it.The product feels very sturdy and is built very well. It looks and feels like a high quality product and worth the price. Also the included cables and mic stand are of decent quality which should last for a while. I am however not a big fan of the proprietary cable that connects the VX to the iPad/iPhone. I'm afraid that if something happens to it i will have to spend a fair amount of money to replace it. It would have been nice if it used a more standard cable that can easily be replaced. The free Mobile Pod app has some great sounding guitar amps. The amount of FX are however very limited and also not very impressive sounding or useful. I own pretty much every guitar amp simulator for iOS and this app has almost the worst collection of FX. But the preset library of tones is impressive and i already built a very nice set of great sounding amp settings of my own. I do like the app a lot.Overall the whole package you get is well worth the money and is very useful in a home recording studio, practice room or for traveling.UPDATE: iOS 13 renders this product useless. It is currently (feb 2020) not compatible with IOS13 and so far no fix seems to be in sight yet either. So do not buy if you are running the latest iOS. Very unfortunate since i think it is a wonderful product when it actually works. Really hoping for a fix!

A well thought out and inspiring product
I bought an iPad Air 2 to replace a 3rd generation, I needed a thunderbolt guitar interface, I did not like the concept of a convertor connector. I started looking around at options. I bought this and it is brilliant!I had long wanted the iPad to act like a good quality effects unit. Amplitube never seemed to sound convincing enough to me and I could never quite understand the tape recorder. But with the Line 6 Mobile Pod and GarageBand, I am truly inspired to doodle. The Mobile Pod has depth and air and a high degree of transparency.I love the headphone socket on the unit, I can plug in my Audio Technica headphones that have a large jack cover. The unit is relatively large because of the microphones, but not too large for mobile recording.A well thought out and inspiring product.

Trop de souffle
Le seul reproche que j'ai faire et que le souffle est loin d'être négligeable, ce qui n'en fait absolument pas un produit professionnel.

Excellent demo tool with great features
If you're looking for an all-in-one interface to use with GarageBand, this is an excellent choice. You get a slider switch that moves you between the line-in, a pair of mics in stereo, and a mono mic.The mono-mic is good (if a little sensitive) for vocals and instruments. The stereo pair did a decent job of capturing my dreadnought acoustic. The line in is obviously geared towards guitar and bass, but can likely be used with keyboards. It works well with the included Mobile Pod sounds, and is stunning married to BIAS FX or Amplitube. The appearance of latency can be a bit arbitrary, but restarting the app will usually resolve that issue. It outputs direct from the unit using a headphone-size jack, or a pair of 1/4" outs for higher resolution. You can also run your headphones out the iDevice's standard jack (if it still has one, obviously). It might be useful for monitoring. There's also a direct monitoring switch, but it's an untreated sound so only useful for acoustic instruments as far as I've discovered.Set up was as simple as plugging it in. I haven't tried it with my Surface Pro, but I'll try and pair it with Reaper and see what sort of results I get.So, how good is it? For the £100 I paid, it's brilliant. You can easily pull demos together in Garageband and, with the right add-on apps, it'll sound pretty good. The microphones are good enough, but given a Rode NT-1a costs about £139, a pair of stereo SM-57s and a good line interface and some cables will cost over £400, you need to adjust your expectations. This is a perfect portable interface for making demos and quick recordings with high-quality sounds. It's excellent value, it's easy to use, it plays well with iOS and you can use it with any of the variety of apps out there in the AppStore.

Great sound but it would not charge my iPhone or iPad like the manufacturer claims.
I bought this specifically to use with my iPhone 5S and my iPad Mini 1st generation. It was used as both an input for guitar and as a microphone for vocals. I chose it because it is claimed to also allow the charging of my iDevices while in use by connecting the Sonic Port VX to a wall charger with a micro USB cable. However, I found that both my iPhone and iPad Mini did not charge through the unit as the manufacturers claim. Every time I connected the Sonic Port VX to a charger with the supplied lead, my iPhone and iPad both presented the " this accessory may not be supported" warning and not charge at all. I have tried different leads and chargers, including Apples own iPhone charger and iPad charger, but with no joy.A quick check on the Line 6 support forums seem to show this as a pretty common complaint. Its integration with the Mobile Pod software is good and the simulated amps and effects that the software offers produces some nice, usable tones for guitar players and, with a recent upgrade, the Mobile Pod app is now Audiobus and Inter App Audio compliant with means that the app can be used with other music creation apps such as GarageBand. The microphone is pretty good for the price and and delivers rich, detailed recordings. You can't use the microphone and the guitar input at the same time though. You switch between the inputs via a toggle on the side of the unit.I ended up sending the Sonic Port VX back because of the charging issue as it was one of the main reasons that I chose it. However, if keeping your iPhone or iPad charged during a session is not a priority to you, and you want the convenience of having both, a line input and a microphones in a single device, then this is still a great little unit capable of producing good quality recordings.

Beware -fine whilst it works
I bought this because It was a mobile, powered microphone, with guitar input for easy recording directly with garageband. For a while I was really happy. The mic is a great quality (although for best vocal results you'll need a pop shield). The options to choose stereo or mono mic was great. A decent guitar input -fantastic.But recently it stopped working with ios devices. My issue doesn't appear to be the same as others whose devices momentarily stopped working when Apple first updated to iOS 13. That issue is supposed to be fixed now (I've been told). Working with Line 6 Customer services -I've instead narrowed down the issue to the lightning port cable. It's got a unique line6 connector and line 6 customer services say Line 6 can't sell me the lead. They say there is only 1 supplier in the UK I can use -Sontec -and they tell me a replacement cable is £56.81 (which is due to cost set by Line 6 to them). For about £6 more I could buy a new sonic port (cheaper non mic version)! There is also a mini USB connector, but if you go from Sonic port VX >standard mini USB out> official apple USB to lightning adaptor>ios device = message on apple device saying "accessory requires too much power". The only work around I've been able to come up with is to go from Sonic port VX> standard mini USB out> powered USB hub connection> official apple USB to lightning adaptor>ios device, to get it to work -the whole thing is no longer mobile, losing one of the main elements that attracted me to device in the first place!Add in the fact that 'mobile pod' guitar software that comes free with device is long overdue an update... I think I'd have to recommend customers spend their money elsewhere. Such a shame!

Good product, especially for recording live performances, feels a little too plastic though
Good product, sounds good, really useful that it has a gain switch on it and relatively easy to use, although would be nice if the guitar input and mic could be used more simply and were more plug and play. But generally picks up audio exactly how you'd expect and is really handy. My only main grip is the feel of the thing is more plastic than i would typically like, and the grill covering the microphone is again cheap feeling. This doesn't exactly detract from the sound but would be nicer if it was metal chassis and such, but i suppose you get what you pay for, and other than the feel it does look really great.Final not would be the stand it is on is a bit wobbly at times so not the most sturdy there. HOWEVER i generally wouldn't let those small negatives put you off this, i find its really great at capturing audio of a live gig when plugged straight into your phone and used for the videos audio pickup, really makes those amateur filmed videos turn more pro for musicians that want to share their performances online with good audio quality
