Lessons from an American Stoic: How Emerson Can Change Your Life

This book was highly recommended in a review I read in the Wall Street Journal, and I must say a fully agree. The ideas covered are accessible to any reader but also interesting to anyone who is conversant with Emerson, or the Stoics. The author also includes a summarization of take away points of each chapter, and includes activities for application to one's own life. I am a clinical psychologist and this book as become one I have frequently recommended to my clients.

This might be the best book I have ever read and I have read quite a few. I like the casual nonjudgmental style in which the book is written and I really liked the presentation of Emerson’s American Stoic message. So many times the message gets lost or confused in the delivery. Not here. The message is sparkling clear and easy to understand. In my opinion the more people that read and implement this philosophy the better. Just do the right thing.

It looks new; it doesn't look read at all.

I loved this book - Matousek writes about Emerson and his teachings in a a holistic way while, at the same time, lifts it out of its more archaic writing style and views of the day. Fantastic.
