So clear and helpful on the subject that really matters
I’ve been thinking about Jesus’s practice of disciple-making for a long time, and this book lays out the key issues really clearly. He draws on the wisdom of others, especially Dallas Willard, but right across the spectrum of traditions and the history of disciple-making.

A Modern Celebration of Discipline
One of the best books I have read on spiritual formation in the last twenty years. It isn’t that it is new stuff - no one can claim that. But it is packaged in such a good way for this current moment, that I couldn’t put it down.Looking forward to using this and the suite of resources with my church congregation.

How to Love Well
John Mark Comer in his best selling book Practising The Way tells his readers "You must read this book - The Connected Life". I can see why. It is very good. Very good indeed. This is no Christian-Lite paperback. Todd Hall is a Professor of psychology. He also runs the Harvard Human Flourishing Program amongst other things. He knows what he is talking about when it comes to connecting with others and connecting with God and how each affects the other. The reader is taken on a journey from attachment theory to the art of love and how to love others well. With candid personal story and examples from clients the reader feels one moment caught off guard and exposed, the next reassured with a touch of self-realisation and connection. There are some great moments in the book: "You are loved into loving" and one of my favourites: Dumbledoor to Harry Potter: "It is your decisions that make you Harry, not your gift".If you want to know yourself better, why you are here, and how to love this book is a good place to start.

Easy to read and gets to the heart of things
A quietly wise book that speaks into our age of anxiety and shows the way to developing a deeper more spiritual life. An intelligent book grounded in a breadth of knowledge and biblical truth whilst remaining humble in its approach.

One of the best books to date!
This has to go in my top 3 best books I’ve read in a long time. I am not an avid reader, and am very selective. If a book doesn’t hold my interest I put it down and never pick it up again. This book covers a MOST important and ignored by modern Christian topic: daily obedience to Jesus and the way He wants you to live. He has changed symantics which really puts a better frame of reference on the subject; it is apprenticeship as a synonym for discipleship. The book is filled with quotes that are to the point and timely. I love the emphasis on historical Christians and their writings without it feeling like a dry history lesson.Overall the book kept my attention to the end. I found it thought provoking and I found my self putting it down to ruminate for a few days until I was ready for the next nugget. It also is extremely helpful, with practical things you can do, giving suggestions. I felt like I was gleaning from centuries of Christian thinkers, philosophers, apologists, without have to actually read them!!! I was challenged and inspired to be a better apprentice of Jesus. It is one of the key aspects of Christianity we have lost in today’s society, and MUST get back to!Like I said, one of the top 3-4 books!

Super Relevant for 2024
He tells it like it is. I feel like he hits on the points that everyone else is afraid to and he does it with creativity and finesse. I found myself nodding and highlighting pages as I read this book. I highly recommend it for millennials and Gen Z. It will open your eyes to some profound cultural things that need addressing.

An absolute delight
I must say I'm a fanboy of JMC but with good reason.. the honesty with which he approaches the subject matter is refreshing.. no quick fixes from know it all guru.. but true christlike honesty and humilityIf listened to most of the book twice on Audible.. some parts more.. and still decided to get the book as well.. a lot of the content needs in dept integration into my life.. It does align well with where I'm at in my current journey with Jesus..The fact that every relationship requires proper maintenance.. also one with the Almighty Creator.. is not a very popular subject in the western Church.. but we all need to hear this.. and act on it like there's no tomorrow

Read it!
Following the example of how Jesus lived instead of how he died is what I've always believed about Jesus & the Teachings he left for his Desciples to teach on their journeys. Jesus's parables & the Buddha's Koans are comparable in their meanings & what they were pointing to. Buddha found the Truth where Jesus was seemingly destined to be a Great spirit & like Buddha a brilliant communicator & teacher to the people everywhere. Like how the Tibetans pick their Dali Lama Jesus was a great spirit that it seems many cultures knew was arriving & the reason I believe Jesus like Doubting Thomas who followed Jesus the Christ to India after the crucifixion was in India. Jesus was to learn scripture from all religions he thought could help his message, the truth as he seen & knew it. Jesus & the Buddha never wanted religions or to be worshipped. They led exceptional lives & wanted us all to as well like they did & in this we have the true meaning of Jesus's life & l will be a Buddha or a ♥️🙏
