From School Library Journal Gr 1-2–The title, unfortunately, says it all. Furley the monkey is sitting under a tree one day when a disgusting brown lump plops onto his head. He sets off to find out the culprit behind this filthy act. “Who flung dung?” he accusingly asks the elephant, python, crocodile, vulture, and other large beasts he encounters. Each animal gives him a rude reply until he finally returns to the scene of the crime and discovers his brother looking suspicious. The last page, unsurprisingly, shows Furley getting his payback. The jacket flap promises “scatological humor, silly illustrations, and crazy antics,” but the story is painfully unfunny. The mean-spirited text is accompanied by pictures of grotesque-looking animals surrounded by flies. Don't waste your money on this pointless story.–Martha Simpson, Stratford Library Association, CTα(c) Copyright 2013. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. Though he has illustrated over fifteen children's books, Who Flung Dung? is the first book that he both wrote and illustrated. When he's not writing or drawing, Redlich enjoys making puppets and playing the banjolele. Read more
