Good Value NVG Goggles — But Not True ‘Binoculars’ and Could Be Improved
Overall, I’m very pleased with the Nightfox Swift 2 NVG goggles. I wanted an inexpensive night-vision device with a replaceable battery, and the two-year warranty is excellent. Product support has also been very responsive. One thing that should be clarified on the product page: this is not a true binocular device. It uses a single lens and sensor that projects an image onto an internal screen, which both eyes view simultaneously. In optical terms, this is closer to a bi-ocular display than a binocular. Both eyes see the same image, so you do not get true stereoscopic depth perception. Some reviewers note that IR illumination creates shadows that aid depth perception. That’s partly true, and you also get some depth cues when moving your head, but it’s still not the same as true binocular vision. Another point that isn’t clearly explained in the product literature is the vision requirement. The screen is only a few inches from your eyes. If you’re young or naturally near-sighted, you’ll probably see the display clearly. But if you’re farsighted or need reading glasses (have presbyopia), you may need corrective lenses to focus on the screen. I’m 80 and need about +2.5 diopters for reading. When I tried my wife’s +2.0 reading glasses under the eye shield, the image became much sharper. I have a pair of +2.5 Eyekepper reading glasses on order that measure about 138 mm wide and 50 mm tall, which appear small enough to fit inside the eye shield. Anyone who normally uses reading glasses should keep this in mind when buying a device with a display this close to the eyes. Nightfox might consider offering an optional face shield or insert designed to accommodate reading glasses or corrective lenses, since many users of night-vision devices are older and may need close-focus correction to view the screen clearly. The Swift 2 comes with a good headband and shoulder strap. However, the eyelets used to attach the shoulder strap could be redesigned. The bend angle makes it very difficult to thread the strap through. Without a very thin pair of strong forceps, it would have been quite frustrating. Some reviewers also mention that the goggles bounce on the hinge pin that connects them to the headband and swing away from your face when you look down. That is true, but there is an easy workaround. If you place the shoulder strap around your neck and pull both strap ends together behind your neck, you can clip them together (I used a large binder clip). This pulls the goggles firmly against your face and eliminates both problems. Nightfox could probably incorporate a simple strap tension feature to accomplish the same thing. One focusing tip: at 1× magnification, it can be difficult to judge the best focus. I found it helpful to tap the Zoom button to switch briefly to 3×, adjust focus there, and then switch back to 1×. Finally, the carrying case could also be improved. With the headband attached to the goggles, the case cannot be closed, so the headband must be removed. The hinge mounting bracket could also be removed, but repeatedly removing and reinstalling the small knurled screw that bolts it to the goggles doesn’t seem like a good long-term solution. I chose to leave the bracket attached, but that means the case has to be forced slightly to close around it. A slightly taller case with a designated place to store the headband in the lid netting—without pressing the power button—would solve this problem nicely. Overall, despite these minor issues, I’m very happy with the Swift 2 and think it offers excellent value for the price.

Cant go wrong
^ Obviously the phone camera footage doesn’t do it justice, but these do super good. It does have the problem where it will brick but the button next to the charger port fixes it up. Just keep it in 30fps and hopefully some firmware will be released to help. You can definitely see in absolute darkness. The only killer I found is that the IR illuminater is too close to the camera, so dust is a huge killer to seeing really anything until it settles. Other than that it’s a solid device and honestly it’s better than having nothing at all if you ever needed them. The included head strap works well. They’re good to go in my book.

Still learning to use.
This is a good product and operates as described. Fun to walk around the house in the dark. However it would take a lot of practice to be able to use it for self defense. It's very lightweight, on off and power levels are easy to use. The provided helmet mount is cheap plastic and will break.

A fantastic and affordable entry into the night vision world
I purchased this after wanting to get into night vision solutions. After combing through the reviews and recommendations of the comments on Amazon as well as YouTube channels I decided to try this product out. My main goal was to use these goggles to be able to walk to and from Deer stands or blinds in early morning or evening so I don't give myself away using flashlights. The limited field of view takes some getting used to as well as the refresh rate of the sensor but it is entirely doable to move around in the dark while walking at a brisk pace. I will say after trying it out this is NOT something you'd want to use moving through woods. I constantly found myself running into hanging vines or stumbling on uneven ground. If you have to move through woods, take it slow and use trees for bracers and absolutely turn on the infrared lights so you can cast shadows and get a decent depth of field. Moving on open terrain that is flat is ideal and easy to do and even using the Lunarlight mode (no IR light given off) allows one to traverse well without using lights. Another plus was when I received my unit it had a fully charged battery and between me using it as a tester in and around my house as well as a walk back in the dark after some still deer hunting in an evening hunt the battery is still full or at least it shows full on the HUD icon. I can not wait to use this device even further but for now I am loving it! 5/5 for entry level night vision!

So close, yet too close
Let's cut to the chase. The IR works great, certainly at this price point, but the mounting bracket is junk. The fact that these seem to be the only 0x "goggles" on Amazon is also noteworthy. There are dozens of cheap IR binoculars with lens magnification, but seemingly just one pair of goggles you could theoretically walk around with while equipped.. Except, you wouldn't want to. The FOV, even on the "Pro" model is just laughably narrow. You can certainly walk around, but on terrain less even than one's front yard, you're at risk of tripping on something and face planting your $200 goggles into the dirt. I did attempt driving an ATV using only these goggles to light the way and did experience some success, and with practice you could probably develop some degree of confidence, but when you can only see the front of the ATV by leaning back and outstretching your arms (again owing to the narrow FOV), the confidence can only be so high. It genuinely confounds. Typical "consumer grade" goggles retail for $2,000+, not $200. Why the insane mark-up when the tech clearly functions so cheaply? I'm not sure, but even at 1/10th the price, I don't believe you'll be satisfied with these "NightFox" when the novelty wears off. I unfortunately was not.

It just simply works!
The goggle build quality is very good. The case, straps and eye cup are of very good quality. The eye cup does a great job keeping light from escaping if you are in a situation you don't want others to be able to see you. The ability to use various levels of IR to make yourself less noticeable to others is great. Having spent 12 years in the Army infantry, I would highly recommend this item. Unbeatable bang for the buck. The only thing I would add is a detent so when the goggles are raised from the face they could be locked in the raised position.

Basically useless
I hate to write a bad review because these are inexpensive and work like inexpensive night vision works, which is to say poorly. They absolutely require ambient lighting or illumination to the point that I could see better without them if the ambient light was sufficient and if flooding an area with IR, the range was so poor as to again be useless. You can't really use them indoors, IMO, because the field of vision is so narrow. So for me, they're absolutely pointless; not an improvement over the naked eye. I would recommend if a company wanted to make affordable digital night vision, make something like the oculus headset that combines input from multiple cameras onto a 3d screen, giving a much wider field of view. Then you could use it for giggles in a building or maybe even a trail, just a thought.

Underrated piece of equipment
Clarity was superb and extremely comfortable headwear and eyepiece. Really solid piece of equipment that doesn't weigh a whole lot. Overall extremely satisfied with my purchase.
