Works!
I purchased these because I was so tired of getting bombarded with ads within 48 hours for things that I would talk about in normal discussion with family or friends if my any of my devices were near me.I tested these on a couple computers, cell phones, and a couple of different iPads.Pros:-Voice memos, voice commands, video recording, phone calls, all only register static. The devices are still trying to hear you, but only static is recorded.-it’s about 1/2 inch long, width around about the size of a pencil eraser, so it’s very easy to plug in and unplug from the headphone jack.-when I have it plugged in, I can do everything I’ve done before on my devices.-I am oddly and sarcastically satisfied that ever since I started using these, that bombardment of ads related to anything I had said, are no longer popping up. Ads still drive me crazy, but now they are completely random, and not from stuff I mentioned in conversation with a device near me.Cons:-I can hear my phone ring, but that is it. I cannot hear what the caller is saying (it makes sense, because it creates a loop from the microphone with the speaker of the device).-I can’t hear any notification or text sounds.-because of its size, you have to be careful not to bump it.-it works with the ordinary headphone plug. However, I have an updated iPhone that does not have the standard headphone plug. But, I easily just used the accessory that plugs into the charging plug that doubles for headphone use, and the results are the same as listed with “standard” headphone plug.

It passed all my tests.
I ordered a 3 pack to see if it really worked. Now I wish I got the 10 pack from the start. So, I'll have 13 of these.I tested the Mic-Lock on a Samsung Galaxy S7 and MacBook Pro. For the Galaxy S7 I called my phone without the Mic-Lock installed and I could hear myself. During the same phone call I installed the Mic Lock and the audio was lost.On the MacBook Pro I tested it by recording with Audacity. Without the Mic Lock installed room sound was recorded by the internal microphone. After plugging in the Mic-Lock the recording waveform went flat. I also tested it with a Conshine Headset Adapter for CTIA Headsets With Separate Headphone And Microphone Plugs, 3.5mm Stereo Audio Male to 2 Female Headset Mic Y Splitter Cable Adapter -Blue and Audacity recorded room sound with the internal microphone despite having a mic jack plugged in. Even with the Mic Lock plugged in the splitter mic input and in the headphone simultaneously Audacity still recorded room sound via the internal mic, which seemed strange.I also plugged in the microphone jack of Bose headphones into the MacBook Pro with the headphone jack end not plugged in to anything and the internal microphone still recorded. Of the various headphone and microphone jack configurations that I tried only the Mic-Lock stopped audio.Although the Mic-Lock alone stops user accessible sounds I would be very surprised if this could stop the NSA from secretly activating your microphone. As Edward Snowden has said, the NSA can activate each component of your device, camera, microphone, etc., independently with no indication the device is in use. Still, I feel better with it than without it.On a side note, remember that your speakers also act as microphones, including headphones. Unless you physically disconnect your speakers they could be used as microphones to spy on you.

Functional but Bulky
This does the trick as advertised. We tested these out, calling each other to and from phones with these blockers installed, and you can't hear anything on either end. (Note, however, that the speaker-phone microphone and speaker will still work just fine. Depending on your goal, that may be a problem.)The only downside is the design. The blocker sticks out about half of an inch past the edge of the phone, so it is very noticeable and can affect where the phone fits. If you know that going in, you will be fine, but don't buy this expecting an unobtrusive, unnoticeable blocker.

What the heck is sheerness?
The rating category asks to rate it for sheerness. What, did they confuse this with a nightgown? But this is an ingenious way of cutting the mic from listening to you surreptitiously. I spoke with the developer and told him he should make it fit a keychain or make the sheath it comes in larger and maybe neon green so it is easier to see when removed because there are times when we want the mic open, right? Kudos to the developer for a brilliant piece of work on this one.

only works on devices that have a jack for headphones ...
only works on devices that have a jack for headphones; thus, won't work on the new iPhones / iPads, or other devices, that have no earphone jack. The way it works is to trick the phone into "thinking" that earphones are plugged in, when there aren't any; thus no way to hear your casual or business conversations, or private musings, when it's idly near you. However, neither can you hear the phone ring when someone calls you, or hear the other person whom you call. Kinda seems to defeat the purpose if you have to remove it to receive or make a call since your phone calls can be listened in on, should they be; but then, I suppose that's what VPN encryption is for; don't know.

Works as intended.
Great product. Works as intended. I’ve purchased these 3 times, so I have enough for my iPod, iPad, iPhones and Macs. Blocks the mic well, which I’ve tested on my phone, by opening up a dictionary app and using the mic to speak a word. The voice meter doesn’t register, and no word and definition pops up. I recommend this product.

works well, sticks out too far
This works well on my HP Pavilion 15-cd0xx laptop. The microphone is completely cut off. It seems well constructed and sturdy. It comes with a rubber-like cover for storage. However, it sticks out of the laptop by about 5/8 inches (16 millimeters), and sometimes gets in the way. There is no way to attach the cover to the plug, to prevent it getting lost. This laptop has one 1/8 inch port for both speakers and microphone, so the speakers are also cut off, but I expected that. My older eMachines laptop has separate connectors for microphone and speaker, and on it, only the microphone is blocked.
