I bought this to puncture my canisters after I'm done with them while traveling. I picked this up mainly because it was small and didn't look sharp so I could get it through the TSA.Poking holes in backpacking canisters without the handle which is purchased separately is possible. After completely emptying the canister, put this on the edge of the canister and place it on the ground. Step on the canister while making sure this tool stays perpendicular. This should provide enough force for it to work. The tool still looks great after doing this so it is quite well made.

Although it is fairly small, so it can be attached to a keyring, it does the job of puncturing the small butane gas canisters, hence depressurising and making them safe for disposal in the recycling bin.

I missed the fine-print in the item description that says that the handle shown in the pictures is sold separately. This seems pretty silly since some kind of handle is necessary to use the recycling tool - it is hard to get enough leverage to puncture the fuel canister without a handle. I ended up just kind of levering the top of a screw driver in the bottom recycling tool. This worked ok, but it damaged the threads in the recycling tool so that now I won't be able to attach it to the handle, even if I ordered it. TLDR, this should just be sold with the handle included since it is required to properly use the recycling tool.
