Well, I’m impressed. Good investment. Some technical detail here.
I used this to move three 55 gallon steel drums filled to the brim with oil. Assuming the oil weights 7.3lbs per gallon, that would be about 400 lbs, and with the weight of the barrel itself, say 440lbs. Heavy enough that I couldn’t get it on edge and roll it on the floor. I love that it’s designed for both a hook and a forklift fork. It is designed to fit up to a 5” wide fork in that respect. My forklift was down for repairs, so I used my backhoe instead. As soon as it is bearing weight, those claws clamp down hard on the barrel and lock them firmly in place. It leaves a little marring and flattens out that spot ever so slightly on the outside of the barrel, but not to the point where it’s a concern. When you initially lift it, depending on where you put the clamps and how slick the barrel is, the claws may slip around the circumference. Just lift cautiously at first, but again, once this tool is bearing the weight of the barrel, it’s locked in place firmly. Just do your best on placing them 180 degrees apart. This was my first time using something like this, and it made the job a breeze. I also bought a barrel ratchet strap system, which would allow me to lift AND tilt the barrel for pouring….something this absolutely cannot do. Not sure how often I’ll use that if I even need to keep it. I also can appreciate that the screw knob is cast aluminum or zinc steel (haven’t looked at it that closely), but it’s a quality metal knob. I assumed it would be a cheap plastic one. Also the bolts were good quality metric class 8.8. If you see any number less than that, you know it’s not meant for anything serious (you’ll see so many harbor freight tools and components held together by metric 4.8 bolts. May as well be zip ties). Would buy again. I will update if anything changes; I’m good about that.

It just works.
I had a barrel full of used oii that had been left on my property by the previous owners and it was overflowing when it rained. I had purchased this to try and move it. It took me longer to get the tractor to where the barrel was than it was to hook up and haul it out. It is great when a product functions exactly as designed and advertised. It truly did exceed my expectations.
