This book is a wealth of information about gut health, which also affects your overall health and the strength of your immune system. It gets into many aspects of gut health, including things like leaky gut and IBS. The author also explains what's different about taking a natural approach to health. A few things that jumped out when reading are that the gut is the body's second brain and that 70-80% of our immune system is located in the gut. There are lots of helpful charts and tables, including an overview of the main gut issues people face and possible causes, an overview of many gut symptoms and their possible causes, a list of probiotic foods and a list of key vitamins & minerals. The book also gets into stress, sleep, exercise, autophagy, food choices and food intolerances. There are also quite a few recipes and meal plans. Some of the recipes also address specific issues like leaky gut. Great book!

good basic information for people interested in improving their gut health
This book is an enjoyable and easy read. I have been interested in the topic for quite a while, since in our day and age, gut health too often is compromised by our modern Western diets and the sheer amount of processed foods we ingest. Lucy Birch not only provides a nice overview of gut health basics and the different biochemical mechanisms involved but also shows many different ways to enhance gut health using mostly relatively simple recipes that even people with little experience in the kitchen will be able to prepare. For the sophisticated reader, who is already pretty familiar with the topic and has done some research and reading, many things may known already and the book may be a little basic, but I'd say this is a great guide for those just starting to get interested in this important topic.

This is an excellent book. It is well-written, very well-organized, and filled with helpful insights and tips. As a person who has suffered from IBS all my life, I particularly liked the sections dealing with the following topics: optimizing one’s “second brain” by attending to one’s guts real needs; embracing “natural health” along with modern medicine; the history of homeopathy; respecting one’s particular gut intolerances and allergies; the importance of prebiotics to probiotics; being aware of irritable bowel syndrome symptoms and triggers; and when to work with a professional. For all those with gut problems, this book is a “must read.” Highly recommended!

A Must Read
This book is a must read for any of you who want a better understanding of gut microbiome health, to know when it is below par, potential triggers and how to remedy any inflammation onset.I have watched hours upon hours of gut health podcasts etc, but find that this book was all I ever really needed to have and read. It was so good I got both the kindle (I read on my iPad as super easy to read and navigate) and hard back version to go on my book shelf to dive into on a need to remember basis.I am SO pleased to have found this highly informative and easy to read book. Love the remedies at the end of each chapter.
