Never going back to regular detergents!
I've washed with the Ecoballs for a few months now and am very pleased with the results. No, they are not a miracle cure, but they're so much better than regular detergents. You just have to consider a few things and maybe (oh no!) perform a few more actions to get the job done. Here are some ideas:Clean the washing machine. Preferably before you switch to Ecoballs. This is to get rid of the gunk caused by regular detergents. This requires wiping the drum, the rubber around the rim, cleaning out the filter and cleaning the detergent compartments. I also used Ecozone Washing Machine and Dishwasher Cleaner (Pack of 2) in a hot wash. After months of trying to get rid of the bad smell that my laundry was acquiring these tablets finally got rid of it. Because my roommate still uses regular detergents the gunk is accumulating again so I'm glad I bought the duopack as I'll need the rest of the tablets for future use. I believe that any bad smells that may appear again do not come from the Ecoballs themselves but from a build up of residue from regular detergents. However, since my washing machine is shared with another, and I started to use a bit of odour neutralising vinegar with my loads, I have no way to be sure.Pretreat stains. I already did so with regular detergents so for me there's not much change there apart from switching to Ecozone Ecostain Multi-Purpose Stain Remover which so far has worked just as well as the regular one I used before.Don't fill up the washing machine but use slightly smaller loads. If there is more room for the laundry and balls to move around in you won't have any lingering smells in your freshly laundered clothes. Whether that is because the Ecoballs work as well as promised or because it's the power of water alone I cannot say. Maybe someone can do an experiment in a newly cleaned machine and tell us. Until a better alternative is found I'll stick with the Ecoballs (and a dash of white vinegar when washing especially smelly things).Google "optical brighteners", read about the effects on the average human being (not to mention the environment) and then think hard about how much you really want your whites to be white. After I had read various articles on the effects of those brightening agents I decided to repurpose my whites and replace them with coloured items. Much more cheerful and an excellent excuse to shop. Or try some ecofriendly whitening powders or soaps and dry your whites outside in the sun when you can.Miss the artificial scents? Try experimenting with ecofriendly detergents, natural soap(flakes) or make your own by using recipes from books such as The Naturally Clean Home: 150 Super Easy Herbal Formulas for Green Cleaning. I just put a few drops of essential oil in the fabric softener compartment and change the scent from time to time. Lavender for bed sheets for example, citrus scents for workout clothes, eucalyptus when I suffered from a cold, floral or wood scents for my regular clothes depending on my mood.Live in a hard water area? So do I. To help soften my clothes I put a little white vinegar in the main detergent compartment which coincedentally also helps neutralise odours. The bashing around of the Ecoballs also seems to help. As for limescale, the Ecozone Magnoball Anti-Limescale Ball is supposed to be good.As for the small holes and tears mentioned by other reviewers... I haven't noticed any. Then again, I handwash my delicates. Maybe it's possible that thinner items are bashed around too much? I used to get holes in older clothes but that was before I started using the Ecoballs so I am unsure if it can be linked to them or if it's just something that happens to certain items eventually.I hope this helps you make a decision!

Love them! Some useful TIPS if you are new to Ecoballs
I have used the balls for a year very successfully with a sports mad son. Before using them a friend recommended to use a washing machine cleaner, to get rid of the build up of detergent and conditioner gunk and, if you live down south, calcium build up. You may also need to check your washing machine soap and conditioner drawer and the filter and clean them out too. After that there should be no smelly washing unless you are unfortunate to live in a damp house or don't have adequate drying facilities.I add 30ml/2tbsp of home made fabric conditioner to the space in the detergent drawer (a 300ml bottle of clear malt vinegar with 15ml of lavender essential oil, which you shake up vigorously before measuring it.) it softens the towels especially.Tomato sauce, black currant, blood, etc. stains need to be rubbed with washing up liquid, in the same way you have to deal with them with washing powder etc.if you have very muddy kit, I rince it first and then wash it with 3 balls in it. I suggest that you put delicates like bras in a delicates mesh washing bag and use one ball; dry the balls over night; and if they are too noisy fill your washing machine a little fuller and only use two balls. My drum is fine after a year and I was about to replace the pebbles after 1000 washes, but it is too difficult to split the balls open, so I'm buying new ones as I think they've served me well.

Recommended
I was sceptical about whether these would work and purchased them on recommendation of my daughter who tried them because her baby has eczema and she was trying to avoid using regular detergent.I must say I have been pleasantly surprised, they cope very well with regular dirt, such as the general soiling on workwear. They are great for my new coloured denims and my jet black denims are still jet black.Using these balls, apparently it is not necessary to rinse the laundry so I have been using the 'proofing' program, modern machines are not set up for using the balls. Alternatively I use the quick wash. The balls are said to last for 1000 washes of 30 min duration so I feel that using a long wash with lots of rinses will wear the balls away much more quickly. The negatives: well, they do not completely take the place of regular detergent, they have failed on such stains as curry, dried in food and the like and I will carry on washing my white cotton bedding on the hottest wash with oxy detergent because I want them as white as can be. The balls are a little noisy in the machine but do no harm although I would not use them to wash just one article as they need 'cushioning'.Over all I feel they will save fading from coloured clothes, save water and save detergent so I will replace them when necessary.

Good product spoiled by faulty casing.
Despite other reviewers advising that their wash balls were coming apart I decided to try these for myself and so I ordered my Ecoballs on the 21st March 2016 and after using them quite a few times was pleased with the cleanliness of my laundry on both whites and coloured wash loads. However within 2 weeks 1 ball came apart leaving pellets in my washing machine drum, the next day the remaining 2 wash balls also came apart. I was disappointed and requested a replacement set of balls from Amazon and returned my faulty Ecoballs on April 3rd 2016. I was advised by Amazon that there was a 2 week wait for a replacement and although disappointed I decided to wait as I was pleased with the efficiency of these balls and liked the concept of them. I was advised that my replacement was due to arrive on 18th April 2016, however I received an email on the 18th April advising that my order had been cancelled and my account had been refunded. I was not surprised as so many other reviewers were advising of the same problem, so after my washballs lasted for such a short time I cannot recomend these washballs unless the company sort out the faulty casing problem.

Bon produit
