Illuminator41898 2-in-1 Clip-On Flex LED Desk Lamp with Removable Base

I am reviewing the white desk lamp model which has a different head unit compared to the bronze or other styles.First Impressions: Quality build, nice design, looks good on a desk or clipped to my nightstand. The plastic is shiny, and it looks very nice; not cheap like the flimsy plastic ones you can find at most retail outlets for a similar price. The lamp isn't as light as I'd expected; the base is well-weighted to keep it from tipping over. That makes it so that you can bend the light back 180 degrees and it will not tip over when using the base provided. If you remove the base and use the clip, I don’t feel as confident leaning the light back. It holds, but it is a bit shaky and I'm not sure it would survive an accidental bump. You may want to consider where you will be using a light like this if that is a priority to you - as with any "hybrid" product, this does multiple things fairly well, but it isn't the best at any one thing… if you need a very strong clip lamp for a certain application, then you may need to try something else - but to have the flexibility to use this lamp on a desk or a counter, and then decide you need to clip it to the shelves in your garage for an hour to help you work on a project, and then move it back to your desk - this is a winner! I have some projects in my finished basement than could use more light than a headlamp, and this light will be great to clip onto some shelves while I work. Then, it can return to the desk where it looks great and works well.The rubber on the inside of the clips is very soft. I feel confident that I can clip this to almost any surface without damaging the surface - in fact, I'll probably damage the rubber on the lamp before it scratches anything I'd attach it to.Lots of clean white light, no bulbs to replace, LED technology is great. I personally prefer cooler lamp colors, more blue and less yellow -and this light is very bright and white. Not the yellow tinged light you'll find on the warmer end of the spectrum, so it suits me very well.The style of the white lamp is modern. As you can see in the manufacturer's pictures, and in the shots I've attached, the white bulb housing is covered in a clear plastic shell of sorts, and it results in the lamp looking good, and also having a slight ring of light around the edge at night, which is a nice touch.The flexible shaft is coated in a smooth rubber-like material that has a nice texture, and it allows me to rotate the lamp around almost 360 degrees - I can point this thing in any direction I want, and the base holds it up great. I may have been able to twist it further, but I would never need to, and to be honest I didn't want to break it for such a silly experiment…If I had any complaints, I would say that the clip may not be strong enough for some wacky placement of the light - however as I mentioned, if you really need a creative clip-on light, you probably should buy a light designed specifically for that purpose. It won't look as good as this lamp, I can almost guarantee.So to send the kids off to college, or for my electronics workbench, this is a good option to provide flexibility.I received this product as a free sample for evaluation and my unbiased review. Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  This lamp has a very clever design, it converts from a desk lamp into a clip lamp. It is a very simple design - the clip lamps just clips to a heavy base. Very easy! The clip easily opens up to 2" and has a good firm grasp. The clip holds well but opens easily. The goose neck is 15". The flexible neck stays in any position I select without "fighting" me. The description says the lamps has a bronze color, but the stock photo did not look bronze to me. In person it really is bronze. I added photos and video that show the color well.The lamp has just two settings on and off, no clicking through multiple levels (I like that). The lamp does not have a battery and has to be plugged in.I used a Lux meter to measure the bright of this lamp. Lux meter measures the intensity of light, and it gives me an unbiased measurement of brightness and I compare it to a 60 watt bulb for comparison. I am using a 60 watt CFL bulb for this comparison. I have tested the brightness of CFL and incandescent bulbs and they very similar in brightness. I am using CFL for convenience since we no longer use incandescent bulbs. The lux meter shows that this LED light produced 484 lux, for comparison CFL bulb produced 527 lux. So it is slightly less bright than a 60 watt bulb and produces a smaller spot light. For a small clip lamp that this is pretty, but it cannot replace my engineering desk lamp which lights the entire desk.This lamp was provided by Illuminator with a request for unbiased review, good or bad. I have to admit, I was a little skeptical about this lamp. From the pictures, it looks a little flimsy and not so sturdy. This lamp is anything but.Straight out of the box, this lamp is easy to set up. All you do is simply plug in the AC adapter, plug the lamp in the wall, and you're ready to go. The base of the lamp is heavy. It's light enough to move around easily, but sturdy enough to not tip or fall over during use. The clip is removable with little effort, yet it is strong. The clip ends are fitted with thick, rubber grips to securely hold the lamp in place. The clamp opens wide enough to clip to flat surfaces up to an inch thick without any trouble. I've had it clipped to coated wire shelving, and it doesn't move unless I move it. Replacing the clip to the stand is just as easily done. One of my most favorite characteristics of this lamp, is the ability to move and rotate the light in any direction. I've been using this lamp in my sewing and craft room, mostly while I am making jewelry and sitting at the sewing machine. The adjustable, bright light is perfect for illuminating my work space. The very handy clip makes it even more wonderful when I need extra space to make creative messes. I just clip it up on the shelf, and I still have an amazingly lit work space. I love this lamp, and I will probably purchase a few more because of it's versatility and great design.*Received free sample for evaluation and unbiased review*

I was really impressed with the craftsmanship of this lamp. It's not plastic and flimsy at all. It is very well built and has a classic look to it, despite it's contemporary LED light. It's incredibly sturdy whether it's resting in its base or clamped to the table. The clamp itself is also very sturdy and strong, offering reliable attachment to any flat surface (such as a table or a desk).The LED light is very powerful and offers a generous amount of light to a work surface, and the neck flexes easily into any direction desired.I would highly recommend this lamp to anyone. I'm looking forward to years of good use out of it.
