Katelyn Reed and Aimee Kotrba's book is an indispensable resource for anyone seeking a comprehensive understanding of selective mutism and practical strategies for supporting people affected by this misunderstood disorder. It has a wealth of insights, evidence-based interventions, and real-life case studies to illuminate the challenges faced by those with selective mutism and their families. Drawing on the latest research and clinical experience, the authors offer a wide range of evidence-based techniques tailored to the unique needs of individuals with selective mutism. Each strategy is accompanied by clear instructions and helpful tips for implementation.Perhaps most importantly, their book offers hope and encouragement to families and professionals alike.Comprehensive, compassionate, and empowering, this book is a go-to for us (I help support 20 counselors who use this resource) and should be for families, educators, therapists, and anyone wanting to learn about selective mutism.

Outstanding
As an SLP who has had many years of experience working with children with SM I can tell you this book is the most helpful resource I have had. I haven’t made it all the way through the updated version yet, but the original has practically been my bible working with children with SM. It has helped so many of clients, so when an updated version was released I was quick to pick it up. It is really user friendly for both professional and parents. I have recommended it to the parents of my clients and they have found it an invaluable resource as well. It’s a real must have if you are a parent or professional with a child who suffers from SM.

Must-have resource!
This is a must-have resource for caregivers, clinicians and school staff supporting children and teens with Selective Mutism. It’s an easy-to-read book that is comprehensive in both its breadth and depth of topics, ranging from understanding what selective mutism is, to best practices in assessment of children/teens with SM, to evidence based intervention recommendations. I especially loved that the second edition offers more tools/resources for supporting teens! Highly recommend!!

This book is a MUST
This book is helpful for not just providers, but parents too! Dr. Kotrba and Katelyn are clearly very knowledgeable about Selective Mutism and are at the forefront of treatment. The book is easy to read and so digestible. Not full of annoying therapist-only words, everyone can read and understand this book easily. And so well priced!!
