Mathematics for Common Entrance One

Excellent book. Can't fault it.

I bought these (One and Two) for my children who are 8 and 12 not necessarily to work for Common Entrance but to give them an additional textbook to work from.They're ok but not particularly clear. In particular the explanations are unnecessarily complex and the diagrams are generally poor line drawings. I compared various sections with the DK book 'Help Your Kids With Maths' - the DK book was far superior in giving clear explanations on topics with excellent diagrams. Of course, in the DK book there are generally no examples and no questions, so Alexander's books are helpful for that purpose, although you have to purchase the expensive answer books to go with them. Would I purchase them again? I'm not sure. They are 'cheap' compared with private lessons and a good additional text, so probably, but only as additional texts - they're not clear enough to reply on individually.
