Offers little insight into how the markets WORK. It is just a superficial spin round them. I doubt anyone gained enhanced understanding of the markets from reading this.

I really looked forward to read this book from the Times, and I did not expect an advanced course in how the financial markets work. But I was still truly disappointed as I started reading the book. It reminded me of a superficial, copy-paste style with absolutely no flair/skills in writing more appealing. I guess the journalist knows enough about the field to be a financial reporter at the Times (or wherever he works), but I definitely did not get the feeling that the person really has a good grib of the history or the working of the financial markets beyond the obvious (and what could be read in any prospect). What is more disappointing (and why the book does not get two stars) is the fact that they charge you around 17 Pounds for the book and yet every other page is full of advertising from different sponsors who, I assume, have paid for the publication of the book. So my question is; why should I pay full price for a pretty basic book when it is full of ads. It's like paying the full licence for a TV program and yet being bombarded with commercials every other minute. Oh well, if the author showed deeper understanding, knowledge and skill in transmitting this material, I would most likely not have minded the ads nor the paying the full price of the book

I bought this book hoping to learn more about the operations the global markets. To my astonishment, the author seems not know about such things, despite the title of the book. He glosses over important details and misinterprets others. I can't even say that it is too general or for a novice because it does not begin to explain the dynamics of the international markets. If one is looking for a relevant understanding or even a general understanding of international markets, one needs to look elsewhere.
