Packs a Punch!
This IS a small book as others have mentioned - however: it contains a lot of no nonsense advice on how to get going with portraits in watercolour, there is as much in here as in larger, maybe more glamorous books but I can't speak highly enough about the content - and usefulness - that this book has in spades - love it! You will learn how to draw, enlarge a drawing - transfer onto the watercolour paper. How to mix your paints to get good flesh tones. Little exercises to learn how to portray eyes, mouths and ears etc. I could go on and on - do buy it if you're seriously interested in the subject: an excellent spring board to success!

Good but not the last word in portrait watercolour painting
It approaches the subject well, but it does not go into great depth involving the techniques needed to paint very life like portraits of faces. I liked the book because (like everyone else) we are all at certain painting standards. Some people need little or no advice but most people could use the advice (including myself) this book offers. A good start to accurate portrait painting.

Watercolour portraiture
A lovely book showing a glimpse at the techniques used by this supremely talented artist. She gives a list of the colours she uses on her palette in conjunction with colour mixing recipes fo skin tones, shadow etc.Beautiful photos show progression of the various paintings used to illustrate these techniques in a step by step way.The only "negative" I can think of, is that Peggi Habets no nonsense approach to portraiture in this tricky medium, may give begginner water colourist the sense that what she does is easy. Make no mistake she is a well practiced master of her medium, and one should not be disappointed or discouraged if your initial pieces do not look as accomplished as hers. What this book can do for the begginner though is provide guidance to make their first attempts at watercolour portraits far more enjoyable, and pleasing.

easy step by step guide
Well written in good easy steps. I am reading a section at a time and trying the techniques. Feeling more confident about 'having a go'. My only critique is on colour making but there are whole books on that subject. I would recommend this book for any painter who wishes to try watercolour portraits.

Good book, good service
The book arrived within time frame forecast, well packaged and is suited to painters up to intermediate standard in my view

Very good intermediate level
If you have been painting for awhile this book is for you. I found this book very helpful in describing colour combinations for flesh tones. It is a smallish book so I can take it in my purse, to doctors appointments and keep myself amused. My daughter saw it and order one for herself. Excellent information for the price. You will not be sorry you bought it!

Learning to paint people
What a wonderful book. I have never written in to express my opinion on any book, but, I have read a few books on watercolour painting, which have left me quite confused, but this is great. She tells you in simple straightforward language what to do, and shows you how to do it. Very clearly and she even explains words which I didn't really know what they meant, e.g. 'values' which I now know what it means. Yes if you're a painter then you would know, but if you were just beginning those kind of words are a mystery. For a beginner, I would recommend this book.

Well worth buying
I'm so pleased I bought this book - it is so helpful and easy to understand,It has already helped make my paintings more realistic. I would have given it 5 stars except for trying to find the recommended colours in GB. Also a little short- I would have liked more examples. Despite this I love the book!
