This is a very interesting product! If your soundbar needs HDMI ARC(which isn't available in laptops or PC)or S/PDIF to play actual 5.1, and any other method is simply upmixed stereo, then this is what you are looking for. It works straight outta the box. The build is quite durable metal, connects with great signal quality as it uses optical medium. If combined with APO driver in laptops or PC, you can make your computer speak dolby digital AC3(with a bit of configuration) to the soundbar as a global setting. Works like a charm for my home theatre. Ignore this product if everything I said above is gibberish to you and if you think the sound bars play true 5.1 in any type of connection.

Works as advertised.But overpriced for what it does

I purchased this as a (hopefully) cheap way to upgrade my audio across the board with the intention to use the SPDIF with my Fiio E17 portable DAC/Amp which contains an Optical connection via an adapter which it came with. So I figured instead of using the 3.5mm connector to pipe my audio through why not get this and use USB audio and convert it to clean Optical - and it works perfectly plug and play with my phone/tablet and my Steam Deck and on PS5 you just have to use the front USB C port switch to the SPDIF converter (oddly enough not the DAC) and it works and sounds fantastic! No bluetooth either which means no audio lag or loss of quality.So this converting USB audio to clean Optical via a DAC/Amp combo using Quobuz bit perfect mode or Amazon Music Ultra HD tracks wow!Movies sound fantastic too. As do games. Delighted with this product. Its a lot smaller than it looks tooMight try and get a small Optical cable to cut down on the wires making it more portable.

Der Adapter funktioniert tadellos. Ich habe ihn an einer Dockingstation hängen der das Audio Signal von einem MacBook auf einen AV Receiver schicken soll, über ein Kabellänge von 15m. Der Adapter wird direkt erkannt, Treiber oder Konfiguration sind nicht notwendig. Ich konnte in den Mac Einstellungen direkt den optischen Adapter auswählen und der Ton war direkt da wo er sein soll. Ich bin sehr zufrieden, genau die Lösung nach der ich gesucht hatte. Hier gibt es nichts zu kritisieren, absolute Kaufempfehlung.

Excellent little device at a great price. It acts as a USB Audio Class 2 device. Plug it into USB on a computer, phone or tablet (including via a Lightning adaptor on iPad/iPhone), and you get out optical audio, suitable for many items of audio equipment. I tested it thoroughly. It provides bit perfect performance on CD-standard digital audio -- 44.1kHz -- and also supports 48kHz, 96kHz and 192kHz, 16 and 24 bits. It does NOT support 88.2kHz or 176.4kHz. These are relatively rare, but do exist. Your device will convert them to 96kHz or 192kHz. Formats as shown in image. In 99.9% of use cases, though, the gadget it great.

I own a couple of spdif devices that are fantastic. The Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless and the Sony SrS- Ns7 both these devices receive sound specifically from spdif sources. The Arctis gives you a DTS X which is unbeatable and the Srs-Ns7 provided Atmos through their XR tvs as well as phone app.Anyway, since the PS5 does not support Spdif I thought I would try to find a way to use my most favourite headsets in some way on our PS5 and this little thing was a winner. You should know though, the PS5 only supports stereo when using USB headsets and this adapter helps with that. One good thing though is that the adapter also makes sure you can use 3D Audio (Tempest decoding) which if games support it, they can sound amazing, especially when using a stereo headset, it's definitely the poor man's version (excuse the term) of DTS X or Atmos for headphones.Normally I use the Arctis Pro via the HDMI and get all surround from the spdif out from the tv so that wasn't the problem, still it works if you want 3D audio on an Arctis but when using the Sony srs-Ns7 things really started to sound fantastic with this adapter. It's like a portable surround speaker. Very surprising and mind blowing that it actually works.So all in all this product is a must have for any one that wants to use a Game DAC or other proffesional portable soundcard that uses Spdif on PS5 or PS4 pro for that matter.Was just about to buy the Steelseries Nova Pro wireless then this little adapter saved me 400$ and it just works and sounds great, no hassle. Just a gods sent!Merry Christmas!
