This is the only pasta I will eat. It tastes very much like regular pasta but without gluten and with more protein. I also ordered this for a relative who has diabetes and also loves pasta more than anything in the world. He loves this penne and claims it tastes just like the real thing. While this pasta still has carbs, it also has much more protein than regular pasta, so the carb:protein ratio is favorable with respect to keeping blood sugar levels in control - and also for anyone looking to eat healthier, avoid gluten, lose weight, or just get more nutrition/satisfaction from a pasta-based meal (protein keeps us feeling full longer than do carbs alone).

I ordered this product last week, and finally got a around to trying it. Like the rest of the country, I've become a bit more cautious about what I choose to eat, and am trying to a bit more healthy. I'm a lifelong vegetarian, but for the longest time, most places where I eat only had a basic pasta dish, so it became a sort of default. Over time, due to the convenience, I began making it quite frequently at home too. The problem? I put on so much weight. It's good, but it's not that good. Recently, a friend mentioned that she was eating lentil pasta- all protein, no carbs, and that it was delicious. I had to try it- i ordered this w/ hopeful expectations. Well, my expectations have been met- it's delicious. My first bite, it tasted different then the, 'usual,' pasta, but not in a bad way. It only tasted like maybe whomever is making it, makes the dish a bit differently? It was still delicious. As all the other reviews have mentioned, once you eat this, you'll be asking why this wasn't around sooner, and you'll never be interested in, 'normal,' pasta again. Admittedly, in comparison to normal pasta, it's a bit pricey, but i'm hoping, over time, it becomes cheaper. Regardless, I will only buy this from now on b/c despite the cost, it's worth it!

Now that Tolerant brand lentil pasta has been discontinued (I loved the taste and texture and have been buying it for years), I gave this Explore Cuisine lentil pasta a try. The taste is okay but the texture is quite unpleasant. Instructions say to cook 7-9 minutes. The first time I tried 7 minutes but the penne was really, really soft (almost falling apart.) I now cook it for 5 minutes and let it rest for one minute more. It holds its shape okay but the texture still is soft, lacking 'bite'. I bought a whole case as I like the nutritional aspects of lentil pasta, and I'm sure I'll eat it all, but I just won't reorder.

This threw me for a loop. I have been getting this pasta forever and usually have a couple of boxes reserved and our long-term storage. I just finished our last box the past week and immediately went to Amazon to order more boxes. When I got this pasta it looked the same before being cooked, but I noticed after it was cooked, the lines in the penne disappeared. I thought that might be fine and I cooked it for the same amount of time as before. Let me tell you, this pasta fell apart after only 7 minutes of cooking. In the past, 7 minutes would make it a bit too raw, but I wanted to see if this one would be different than what I was used to. The reviewers are right, they changed the formula and this made my meal almost unsalvageable. I have to add regular pasta to this one to have something to chew and to salvage the meal itself. By itself, it's complete mush and breaks apart. I'd give this negative stars if I could just so I could get the attention of the company that ruined this pasta.
