This is a great capture device which works really well for its intended purpose of capturing progress in one direction without applying teeth against the sheath of your rope . It accomplishes this by using a camming action with ridges instead of teeth. I use this device as my primary capture device for top rope soloing, with a micro traxion device as backup. I do not find the device sketchy at all, as described by another reviewer. Although i use somewhat thin ropes (9.5-9.7) i do not notice any slippage at all and i do not ever need to actually fall any distance in order to get the device to lock as described by the other reviewer. When properly rigged all i need to get the device to catch is to load the device in a downward direction usually by sitting Slowly. If the device is not catching immediately it is probably either rigged wrong or maybe the rope is too thin. I would not want to usr ropes much thinner than the ones specified in the directions on Petzels website. The only case where i have experienced anything like a fall is if the device is not extended off a chest harness. TheN you will fall until you Take up enough slack to weight the device. The only thing that might be described as sketchy is that when the device is loaded if you Then manually manipulate it upward the cam will release and you could fall. Thats why you always use a backup.
