Charming Collection of Delicate Beaded Edgings
Includes 18 charming designs for delicate, decorative beaded edgings that can be attached to scarves, wedding veils, collars, ponchos, or anything else that strikes your fancy! Edgings are constructed from beads that are pre-strung onto thread or yarn, and combined into dangling motifs (butterflies, roses, bells, grapes, stars, etc.), looping fringes, or elegant "braid" borders. The edgings are constructed using simple crochet techniques (instructions included), sometimes combined with off-loom-beading techniques. At the front of the book, there are photographs, including clear, close-up, "under construction" photographs, of each design. At the back of the book, there are "pattern pages", which include crochet/beading charts and descriptions of exact quantities and types of materials used, for each design. At the back there is also a full explanation of how to securely attach the edgings to any edge, curved or straight.Easy-to-find materials include beads (round, bugle, wooden, specialty), sequins, yarn (crochet thread, embroidery floss, nylon beading thread, hemp yarn, lace yarn), crochet hooks, and beading needles. Edgings can be made from lighter or heavier materials to suit the item to be decorated, such as a silk scarf or a pair of cowboy boots. The book also includes a brief discussion of traditional Turkish "oya" edgings, along with an inspirational photograph of a collection of oya-edged scarves. (This photo is used for the book's cover photo). Although the book does not include specific pattern instructions for these designs, many crocheter/beaders will be able to duplicate the designs after trying out the techniques that are described in the book. This book offers "eye candy" for anyone who loves beaded decoration, along with excellent technical information on how to create beautiful beaded edgings.

Beaded Edges for most anything
I didn't know what to expect when I saw this book online, but when I received it I was pleasantly surprised. There are so many ways and to so many things you can apply the beaded edges to that I hadn't thought of. As a Weaver, Crocheter, and a Jewelry maker, I found a whole new world opened up to me that I hadn't seen. My Grandma used to do tatting, which is like really tiny crocheting, but I wasn't really interested in learning it as a stand alone craft, this book offers to me a way to learn that type of craft with beads added, which appeals to my crocheting and jewelry makers heart and I can apply the edgings to my weaved and crocheted items, embellish, or just leave the edgings to stand alone as a necklace or earrings. There are so many applications you can use the edgings for that I can't even number. This is a simple to understand and concise book with detailed, up-close pictures and diagrams that are easy to follow, you won't be disappointed. This is a great book.

Beautiful and useful
The book is beautiful! Obviously the fact that the instructions are in black and white is not a misprint! And I can't see a problem there at all. They are clear and do use shades of grey where needed. What would I do to improve such a great work??1. Spiral bind it. Craft books where you have to check directions while you work are simply fantastic if they stay open by the page you want!2. I miss a difficulty rating for each project. It would be helpful, in my opinion.3. I would group the instructions for crochet stitches in one page. I imagine the fact that they are on different pages has to do with page setting and space, but it would be nice to have them all together instead of having to search for them.4. In the materials section I miss some information about the thread gauges used.Otherwise, the paper is very good, the pictures are very pretty, the projects are very inspiring and the instructions are thorough and easy to follow.Congratulations to the author on her exquisite work, and my appreciation for sharing her skills.

A beautiful inspiring book
Midori Nishida has written a very good book on a very pretty beading technique. She has taken the mystery out of the Turkish way of making a lacy edge (oya) on a garment or accessory with beads. Every step of making each edging is well described and illustrated. I can't wait to gather up some beads and get going on some of these beautiful edges. I think I'll start with a "soap bubble" edged scarf for myself. One disappointment with the book....she doesn't show you how to make the edges on the cover. They are an assortment of her own Turkish "oya" collection(and probably too complicated for us beginners to start with). But the edges she does describe how to make are simpler versions of the originals and are truly beautiful and well worth the price of the book. I'm going to send for "Part 2" of this technique, too, when it comes out this fall.

An upgrade for your wardrobe or gifts.
Exquisite presentation of edgings I grew up with as a child and forgot all about. If you are limited on what you can spend on a gift--or your own wardrobe--you can upgrade them with subtle touches that all will admire. If you sew, finishing touches as these add upgrade to your skills.

This is a beautiful book
I bought this book because I recently became interested in learning how to do beaded crochet. This is a beautiful book, with clear photographs and instructions. It has inspired me to try all kinds of beaded edgings for purchased clothing and accessorie, as well as for the final touch on items I have crocheted myself. What a great way to dress up a plain T shirt or turn a plain jeans skirt into something special. The only thing I regret about the book is that it doesn't say anything about how to attach the beaded edgings one you've crocheted them....had to figure that out myself but it wasn't hard. I would have been nice if this book had a paragraph or two about that in the general instructions at the beginning of the book. That's my only suggestion. I highly recommend this book for crocheters.

Super book
This is a reeeaally great book - I am not professional at crochet but having had a look at some of the patterns I feel if I worked slowly and carefully I could probably get the hang of them. I was a bit concerned that some of the yarns seem to be unavailable in uk but feel sure this would not be an insurmountable problem.

Interesting book
I have not used any patterns from this book as yet but it looks very interesting and I would like to try a delicate one as a veil edging.
