very powerful cpu
snagged this cpu during the amazon sales for £155. the price to performance of this cpu is great; i can run this alongside my rtx 5070 and have no bottleneck whatsoever. a great cpu offering great speed.

Great value cpu loads of performance for a great price.
After building my two Daughters some budget gaming pc's I decided to build myself one. The last one I built for myself was a i5 760 about 15years ago. I did initially buy the i3 14400f processor but I was quiet disappointed with the performance in comparison to a i5 9500f system in my daughters pc. I returned the i3 and purchased the i5 14400f and the difference was night and day. This was on amazon for a great price roughly £110, the processor had 10 cores and runs great on every game I have played so far. I run a rtx 2070 super with it and play at 1080p and always get over 60fps on max settings on all the latest games. I didn't bother with the stock cooler and use a thermalright aio which keeps the temps always below 60°c whilst gaming. These are great temperatures but I can't comment on the original cooler. If you are after a simple no thrills cpu at a great price then this is hard to beat. I know intel has had their fair share of issues with the 13th and 14th gen cpus and only time will tell but I have updated my bios to the latest software so hopefully all issues are resolved.

Highly recommend.
Excellent through and through. Temps are low, the speed is blistering, great price to performance, great at gaming too, just all in all an amazing CPU. I definitely recommend. But if you wanna squeeze out every single frame in gaming, look into AMD. Intel does its own thing and it does it excellently.

Good value
This represents a perfect compromise for price Vs performance. Since I use graphics cards there was no need for an onboard GPU. O/C was easy on my MSI mobo. Changing the frequency easily bumped it up to 5.2GHZ. With a Thermalrite Royal Pretor 130 it's ticking along at 37°C and playing Gears Tactics at full bore for 1/2 hour only pushes it to 45°C.

Pretty great performance for an i5 but not a huge upgrade for some
Coming from a 12th gen i5 to a 14th gen i5 delivered a slight uplift in performance and general 'smoothness'. Those coming from a 13th gen will undoubtedly see marginal improvement, as per the many reviews and videos out there. The elephant in the room is power draw. This is a part that can pull 280W on boost so make sure that your power supply is up to scratch. As a result, this processor gets pretty hot compared to the 12th gen part. I wouldn't recommend an air cooler solution as this can easily hit 70C in medium stress situations using a 360mm AIO cooler. The positives are that the memory speed and clock speeds are higher than 12th gen, otherwise you get the same number of PCI lanes. I also have 2 extra e-Cores versus the previous 12th gen part. All in all, for the overall experience and productivity performance gain, I still think that this is a fantastic product at this price point, which is likely the last hurrah of the LGA1700 socket.
