Yum
Inspired me to cook again after a long bout of pregnancy nausea. (Bleh). Easy, EASY to read, follow and understand. I like that there is only one recipe per page - I'm a little ADHD and I despise cluttered cook books. Actually, I sorta hate cookbooks period so this is an ironic 5 star review. I learned some helpful techniques just from reading the recipes. You can build on all of her recipes. They are basic - and that's really a blessing. I bet I cook 99% of the recipes in this book. It's just that kind of cookbook. You will probably love it or hate it. That seems to be the case with recipes in general. I'm more of a "pantry cook". I just but simple ingredients and find the most economical way to feed my family well from those ingredients. This book gave me an extra edge to my style of cooking. If you are looking for 78 ingredient recipes -skip. If you want to known what a real vegetable tastes like and how to cook it well - try er out. Anyhow that's my 2cents.

Loved it!
I received this book in the mail today and immediately sat down and devoured it, cover to cover. So good like potato chips, the recipes and the writing, I didn't want to put it down. I was a recipe tester so I've already made and enjoyed some of the things in here and there are several more I'm excited to make after reading through the recipes. As a family with a year-round CSA, I really appreciate the greens and root veg love. This is a cookbook similar to how we like to cook and eat, simple and satisfying, yes with our hands, big and small plates, with little waste and embracing the oddball veg out there. Cabbage, cauliflower, kohlrabi, and turnips finally get their turn to shine. I've been reading Alana's blog for a while so I knew I'd like the book but I was surprised by how much I really loved it instead.

One of the best vegetarian cookbooks I've purchased over the last 5 years.
Fantastic vegetarian cookbook..filled with satiating dishes that you can feed to guests that are not vegetarian. The Poblano Rajas Tacos are addictive and the Cucumber Shiso soba is almost a shock for how good it is. The flavors seem familiar but put together create a new flavor that is a happy surprise for your mouth. You can make it ahead of time and gets better the longer it sits in the refrigerator (like a marinade works).Beautifully photographed recipes to peak your interest and give you a clear idea of what it should look like in the end. There is also a useful section on how to wash, store, and make your vegi's last.

Perfect accompaniment for gardeners and farmers market goers
I have become extremely picky about my new cookbooks. I have had many cookbooks, and I KNOW what I like. Eating from the Ground Up checks off all my requirements. First and foremost, there are so many delicious recipes that I can’t wait to prepare! Many recipes have beautiful color photos and all the recipes have an introductory commentary, which I love! I can’t wait to prepare the herbs and veggies from my garden using this book.

Some new ideas
How to make vegetables more interesting? That was my quest after over 50 years of making meals. I first borrowed this book from my local library. Going through the recipes, I knew this book was just what I was looking for. One of the best cookbook purchases I ever made!

Simple and satisfying
I’ve been trying to find a book centered around veggies that is simple and straightforward and this book fits the bill. Every recipe I’ve tried so far as turned out delicious and they’re perfect when I want something quick and healthy but still delicious. I’ll be using this cookbook often

A treasure
Absolutely amazing book! I highly recommend it to any curious gardener and/or home chef. It may have also been the reason for two more of my seed orders (much to my seed collections dismay... Ie I have entirely too many, already).
